Dbarton, i am feeling the same way so it must be short timers syndrome :-) my son gets here on the 17th and we leave on the 19th and i'm so excited i can hardly stand it. Have a safe trip....we are almost there!

Good morning - today I am extra emotional...maybe cuz I skipped my pill last night lol...anyway I can't believe it's only a week away now...we leave on Tuesday to start our mini vacation in Milwaukee and then Chicago - best prize of all seeing my daughter in her dress whites and baby boots!  I know I should wait until I get the "i'm a sailor call" but I have already visualized that part so I'm going!

Navyknitt - I will continue to keep your son in my prayers for a quick recovery. His new PIR will be even that more special to you and to him. Thanks for all the last minute tips! I look forward to hearing about your PIR trip in the near future!  Meegan - Prayers heading your way to give you the extra strength you need to talk with your son.

DIANNEP - Thanks for the follow-up to my question.  It is good news to hear.  The Grandmas were slightly bummed they may not get to come in.  We are all realistic when you start calculating the number of recruits (almost sailors!!!) plus their 4 guests.  We will keep our fingers crossed that they do allow the extras in.   BTW, I think we are going to Flannigan's.  It all depends what the family wants to do but, I think they have the space we need - unless anyone would advise against that local???

Thank you for all of your encouragement and support navyknit...you and your son will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers for quick healing and back on track....Meegan same for you and your son thoughts and prayers are with you - I ask God to give both of you ladies the strength to get through your journey along with your sailors'

Meegan:  Prayers that the Lord will provide the place, timing and way to deliver this sad news to your son.  Blessings....

navyknit:  This group flourished under your leadership...thanks so much.  Although you won't be at this PIR bodily, I know you will be there "in spirit" for all in your group!  Prayers for your son too as he heals and gets back to training soon!

Meegan - Across from the Navy Lodge is Base Housing. This is an open area...not behind fences. All of the little houses look the same! Soft Blues and lots of grass and trees. I remember there being a large middle section in the road between the rows of houses having grass and trees and benches along the way. It was very pretty in May...quiet too. There is a Chapel near the Lodge too...I believe it is the first turn you make off of Green Bay. You might want to scope it out when you first get to GL.

Here is a Mapquest of the NL to RTC. Click Aerial to see  it...but I think Mapquest uses outdated pics...it will give you some idea though. To the left of the star for the NL you can see rows of similar housing. The Navy Lodge is about 1.8 miles driving Distance from Gate 8 for PIR.

Paige - My son sounded great on Saturday. I guess his div was told at the beginning of the week that if they didn't get anything against them during the week, they would be able to make calls. He sounded much better than he did the last time I spoke with him. More confident, happy and excited that they are getting close! Now the wait for the BIG CALL!!!!

Comment by JDM on July 11, 2012 at 4:11pm
Meegan, i don't know the area but is there a chapel that the two of you would have access to. Maybe after services when it wuld be quiet
Comment by Meegan on July 11, 2012 at 3:43pm

Hello Everyone! I can't believe we will see our Sailors next week (not recruits then) Hooray for us! I was wondering if anyone knows of a nice quiet place I can take my son on Sunday to deliver my news, I would like it to be somewhat quiet and as private as possible. I have decided to wait until Sunday to tell him if I can. I have not been thinking about it this last week and now I am facing the last moments to get my plan together. Anyone from the area that have a suggestion? Also, If by some chance I run into any of you while with my Sailor Please keep it on the low what I have shared, at this point I am planning it for Sunday unless someone has gone through this and has some advice as to when it would be best.

ANYWAY-I do not want to be a downer. I am so excited that I want to leave NOW! I can't believe we are finally almost there. Thank goodness for each and every one of you, I would of lost my mind without you.
