There are so many discussion groups it took me a while to find my way back to this one! I have seen a couple meet & greet locations posted over the weeks, but now that we are approaching PIR on 7/20, I am having trouble finding them. Are there any that are family friendly? I saw one at a saloon but we have our 14 & 17 year olds with us they want to come with. Also - can we send a message to someone here individually - not via the message board for everyone to read (i.e. to share our sailor's name and see if they have met)?
mrsSR: Check the discussion Forum above. There is one on what to bring to PIR!
Actually, the "sailor" caps say "Navy" on them but they don't get them until they are sailors!
By the way, PIR is a term WE use on here. The SRs use the term "graduation." So they may question you when you mention PIR! Pass in Review, which is what they do....but it is their formal graduation "strut!" Once they finish Battlestations, they have a "capping" ceremony where they trade their RECRUIT caps for their SAILOR caps. Very emotional time for them. PIR "caps" it off for them!
PIRs are always inside, Julie. Nice cool a/c for this time of year!
As far as the disabled seating, I would call the Public Affairs Office to confirm that. I do believe they have an area for that, but was there so long ago, don't remember. Here's their number: 847-688-2405 M-F
I know this may be silly, but is there a packing list somewhere online of what we need to bring with us to the graduation? I don't want to forget anything. If not, I'll just make my own, but I wanted to know of some things that you guys suggest to bring? I'll be bringing some white hand towels for my SR to sit on so he doesn't get dirty, and a tide stick. That's pretty much all that I know to bring aside from our regular luggage.
You guys seem to know everything else, so I'm assuming you have some insight on what to bring to the PIR.
Janell: I haven't heard a confirmed date on 221/222 and BattleStaitons. There are three nights they could possibly go! So I guess we will just wait and see!
Paige: friend requested info to you....but see above comment! :-)
There is a BattleStations discussion in the Forum above that explains what they are.
Thanks for all the info and advice on everything. It's all very helpful :o) Does anyone know whether the PIRs this summer have been held outside or in the drill hall this summer? I hear Chicago has been extremely hot (just like it's been in Colorado). Also, has anyone been in the drill hall before and know where diabled seating is? Is it on the floor, in the center only, or up top??? Our 2 younger kids are in wheelchairs so we were just wondering where we will end up sitting.
Good Morning Ladies! My son said yesterday when I spoke with him that while at A school he doesn't get any leave for Thanksgiving, but that he gets two weeks for Christmas. Can anyone confirm that? Just want to make sure it's correct before i get too excited!
I had the privilege of meeting LaLa in person while she was here in Florida on vacation and can vouch for everything navyknit says...
