I postd this a page or two back for you navyknit22 (along with a post) but here it is again:
Here is the link to the RCU Ship group on here:
Great ladies on there to help!
Here are a couple of scenarios of what could happen when a Recruit is injured at RTC, retained to recover there and finish BC.
When they are injured and given the option to recover at RTC and then reenter training...they will leave their Division and enter RCU - Recruit Convalescent Unit. They will heal there (We have a group for RCU...the Ship/Div is 04/2341) and then be placed back into a Division that is closest to where they left off in training (A new TG and PIR date). They will finish BC in the new Division and have a PIR.
Some are given the option (or it is decided for them...I have not been able to get an accurate story on this. It has been thought that it depended where they were in training...first half of BC or last half of BC...but when you read the story at the end that goes out the window.) of finishing BC in the RCU. If they do this they will not have a PIR. Once they complete BC and Battlestations (with the next available Division) they will go on to their "A" school.
I know of two Sailors who were supposed to PIR in January and both had stress fractures...they finished BC the first week of March. One in RCU/no PIR and one in a new Division/with PIR. So they were in BC 7-8 weeks longer...but they are now US SAILORS!
Tampsha - it's so great that he knows this is the right path for him! That has to feel so good! Congrats on your call and your letters. The meet and greet isn't far away now, then we'll get to see our Sailors!
Good night all, I been trying to post on the sight for several days but been having trouble...any hoot, I recieved two letter in the mail friday which makes up for four in total and today I finally got my first phone call today from my SR and I was went through so many emotions happy, sad, exicited, anxious and nervous that I was asking him so many questions that my head started spinning....lol He said that he gained 10 pds in there and that the navy was bringing things out of him that he didnt even know he had. He also said that he was exicited to move on to the next chapter and the navy was the right choice for him, and that made my heart smile and my fears go away. The phone called seemed like it was 30 seconds long being that I waited weeks to hear his voice. I'm looking forward to the meet and greet because navyformoms really comforted me as well as enlightened me.
The www.uniquememorymakers.com site does not look secure. There should be a https: it the URL, not just http: when entering any personal or credit card info. With all the stuff out there, I have always been told to never trust a site without the "S". How long have they been around? Also - what's the turn-around time in ordering the ribbons?
Thanks ... that helps. I realize it's all up to my son to figure this out when he gets there, but I like to be in the know.
*edited* From what I understand, there are 3 phases at A-School. Phase 1, they must wear a uniform all the time (and obey the rules that go with wearing the uniform), must be signed out by someone else (can't leave base alone), and have to be back by curfew. Phase 2, they can wear civvies, can sign themselves out but still have a curfew. Phase 3, they get all in Phase 2 but they can have overnights as long as they are not scheduled watch/duties.
If I'm leaving anything out, or wrong about something, please correct me.
diannep, I heard you are the lady to go to. If you have time could you please message me a date for My SR BS21 Thank you!!
I would like everyone to know I just spoke with Lora, its not to late to order you PIR Ribbons!! www.uniquememorymakers.com
Julie, take a look at the discussion above these posts. There are several there that will give you lots of helpful info including what to bring to PIR and what to expect. The ribbons is what they wear on their uniform on the left side of the chest. Most of them only get the one that is for serving their country during a time of war. Some of them will get one for marksman/shooting. Unless you are talking about ribbons families wear to PIR to show support for their Sailor. Let us know if you have any questions we are more than happy to help :-)
Julie L Colorado - My son is in the same ship/div as your son. I talked to my son today and he was saying that he has a new bunk mate because they moved him to be closer to the office for the job that he does. He mentioned that his bunk mate is from Colorado and is also going to A school maybe it's your son! My son said that they are doing very well and have earned a few flags, He also said that they earned being able to march independently. I can't remember what he called it. Battlestations is their final test If you send me a private message I can let you know when that is. Not allowed to post here. I'm not sure about the street clothes. My son did say that he can have his phone once he is at A school,
