For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by Jenn_NicksWifey on July 4, 2012 at 8:08pm: I'm staying on base at the Navy Gateway Inn. Does anyone know if there is a way to get to PIR from there or do I have to go out to Buckley and back in through the rtc gate? I suspect that's what I'll have to do, but it never hurts to ask.

Comment by diannep on July 4, 2012 at 7:09pm: The hotel shuttles from our hotel ran every 15 minutes when we were there. The first one was at 6:30. This was Residence Inn.

MOMofDREW: Could be. They will go first in BattleStations so that week/day count seems right.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on July 4, 2012 at 5:22pm: Well...the Shuttles drop you off at the Gate (which is at the North end of the Drill Hall) and then you walk in...they bypass the line of the cars to do so. You just have to get on the earlier shuttles...I do not know how many and/or how often they run from the Hotels...but some other veteran moms can chime in on that one!

The car line can be long and will move accordingly...but you park in the Parking Garage on the South Side of the Drill Hall. It feeds into the Visitors Center (USS Yorktown) which then leads you to Security and then Midway Ceremonial Drill Hall.

We had 7 Divisions in our PIR and I got in the line of cars about 7 AM (stayed at Navy Lodge...which is West of RTC about 1.8 miles) and was in by 7:20-7:30. Don't get in the very far right lane...it ends and you have to get over...the very far left lane is for through traffic for those not going to PIR. Sailors with SPECOP vests on asked us if we were going to PIR while we were in line on Buckley.
