I got a call!!!! We got to talked for about 20mins!! He sounded a little teary at first. I think that it was from just hearing our voices. He said that the drill instructors are tough, but fair, and that they were issued a bunch of uniforms today. I asked what he was going to do after our call and he said probably get our asses kicked cause some people messed up today. Of course being the Mom I asked if he was one of them and he said no :) he also said that his bed at home is much more comfortable. Doesn't sound like he is sleeping so great. And he wants to go out for a steak when we see him! I have to say it was very hard to hear him at times, lots of static. He talked to my husband first, then me, and then his sister and then of course me again. I asked him towards the end of our time if he wanted to talk to dad again and he said "Can we just talk for a little more. And the dads wonder why this is sooooo hard on us moms! Last but not least, he said to please keep writing!
Oh and we were incorrect on where they are in BC - starting 3-1 today! YAY everyone who got to hear their voices today!
Meegan, Woohoo! I'm so glad that you were able to talk to your son. Hoping for more calls tonight. :)
SHE CALLED!!!! She is now the weapons petty officer...she said they know her name but in a good way! Blisters are much better and she has so many band aids from me that her friends come and get them from her! She said she got 10 letters yesterday and it helps her so much...She has one of the smallest pair of boots too, size 6! I am now exhaling!!!! Oh and they got their second flag for academic!
I have to geyt back to work but I will be reading all about all your calls ladies. Happy bestest day ever. Talk to you all tonight
I got a call just now!!!!!! Only a few minutes but he was doing well. I did not tell him about his friend. I am so happy for all of us right now. I know we are all getting our calls. My son sounded different, more adult. He said that they are getting a lot of IT b/c there are people that are not being a team but more like it is a individual thing. He said he is a lot stronger now and is ready to get it done. HE SAYS HE LOVES PT!!! I was thinking "really, that is not like my son" Ha ha. The best moments I have had in my life. I feel like I can go on now. I miss him tons but am ready to function again. He is sharing the mole skin I sent so hopefully your SR's got some. I gave him instructions on how to use it. Oops, did not know he did not know what it was LOL. He was a band aid kid. We did not have much time so it was short but sweet!! I LOVE MY LIFE TODAY
Meegan, I haven't gotten a call yet either. In his letter that I rec'd on Thursday he had written that he thought he was going to be able to call soon and that he may call before I get the letter. That didn't happen. So of course I made sure that someone was home all weekend and when I was home both of my phones where right by my side, but no call :(. I also sent my son with a phone card. I'm not sure what the answer is in regard to your son's friend. I am sure that he would want your son to focus on the task at hand, so not telling him is the rt. thing i believe. You will be at the service on your son's behalf which is important. I guess for closure reasons bringing something from the service would probably be the right thing to do. Thinking of you and OMG my son is on the phone now. I will right more after I hang up!!!!!!!
Hi Meegan: According to day by day blog today should be marlinspike...and tomorrow should be 4-1 (week 4 day 1 or hell week); shooting range...I have not gotten a call from her yet hopefully this weekend...I have gotten 2 letters from her and she sounds so strong. She loves the food, she likes their RDC's, of course IT not so much but it's just a part of it...I see a big change in her just by her letters, just so positive. As for the funeral, I think photos would be fine and just ask him if he wants to see them...you will have them just in case
It has been 4 weeks today since my son left. Who knows what they are doing this week? He is on ship 04 Div 223. Has anyone got a phone call? I have not and I sent him with a phone card. I did get a letter which was awesome. He mentioned that they were having to do more Intense training and that it was not much fun. I heard that is when someone messes up. Anyway, for all of you that gave me all the wonderful advice on how to handle the loss my son has had since he left (buddy was killed) here is what I am going to do. I will be attending the funeral on Saturday and I will get the Program( forgive me, I am not sure what they are called) I will record with my phone or with a small recorder the words that are said. I really hope I am doing the right thing. I am not sure what he will need for closure when he hears and time goes by. Should I take photos after he is buriedr the head stone. I know it sounds kind of weird but Heck, I did not even think in a million years that this would happen to us. Now that I am here does anyone have any more advice on how to handle the funeral?
You're welcome, dbarton. It will be even better in person with your sailor there!
