Thank you for sharing the video of PIR - tears were flowing just anticipating what it will be like on 7/20!!!
Patrat, My husband gets teary eye even now, as we talk about our sailor (he would never admit though, but I can see it, lol) and my son has been in the Navy for a year and a half. Your hubby will surely understand and like you said, he will "get it" soon. :)
Patrat: I started crying when I entered PIR Hall...and didn't stop until after I hugged my sailor! Waterproof mascara? Made no difference...it was GONE! I was not expecting that many "waterworks"!. Looked over at my then-25 yr old son by me...and he was teary-eyed as well.
Hard to explain to you all....it is just a wonderful sense of pride that you feel for all of these new sailors! You will see and understand then!
Ok diannep you weren't kidding about the kleenex! I just watched the video. I can only imagine what I will be like on 7/20! My husband of course was looking at me like I'm nuts, and that is why I am on this group. I know that you all "get It!" My husband trys to come off like hes tough, but he's really not, and will be in tears as well when we are at PIR.
navyknit: I so agree with your assessment of Lala! I have not "met her" in person, but we have been "friends" on here for about two years. Hoping to meet her in person on one of her family Keys trips since I'm in the Miami area!
Ok, here is a video to get you excited. It isn't from Lala's PIR, but from one in the summer 2011, taken by the mom (a professional as you will see by the video) of her sailor. Enjoy...have kleenex close by!
Awe, you are making me cry, that is such a sweet post. I really enjoyed talking to you as well and I am READY for you to move to the Asheville area. How about Brevard? It is a beautiful little town. It won an award in 210 (I believe) for being one of the best small towns in America :-) When you come back in August you have to come and let me show you around Brevard and maybe take you guys to sliding rock. We have more than 150 waterfalls in our county :-) I should be a travel agent lol. Thanks so much for the ribbon (and other goodies) order. I know you will wear the ribbons with so much pride to the Meet and Greet and to PIR. be sure to save one for a shadow box or scrapbook :-)
I wish i could post the video from our PIR on this page for you guys to see it. You would be able to hear your division numbers called out since we had many of the same DIV's in our PIR group. I still can't believe it has been two years. And I still remember it like it was yesterday. Having my phone in my hand the whole time she was gone, buying a new phone just to make sure I didn't miss a call, and sitting on the porch swing every afternoon waiting on the mail to arrive. I was a real mess lol. And I was so grateful to everyone on this site that I am still here helping all of you :-) The best thing you will hear other than the sound of your Sailors voice is "Now Hear This, Now Hear This, Liberty Call, Liberty Call..... It won't be long now until you are there :-D I wish I could go and meet all of you.
This feeling is the best!
I am staying at the Navy Lodge, So excited!!
Me too Meegan!! I got our plane tickets and rent a car tonight. As soon as I received his form letter I made the motel reservation. Not knowing if he is leaving Saturday or not (A school is in VA) we are staying till Sunday. We are staying in Gurnee.
