My cousin is stationed in Germany....she loves getting packages at her assignment and letters are still the cream in the coffee...even more so now that she is on a routine assignment and will be deployed soon. As I understand from her.... Burt 's Bees Lip Balm is "IT" bc its the best and not sold at the px. So I send it in every shipment! It's a little thing...a letter and lip balm but now I am her favorite cousin!

Anyway, I am thinking that I will send my son something he needs after the dust settles after graduation...the post office have special boxes APO flat rate (not by weight) ship which anywhere for the Armed Services including A-School.

But as to Graduation, I know he is staying at GL for A-school but he still may be G&G which to my understanding this means he will have to report to command asap after graduation and there will be a about a 4 to 6 hour delay before liberty---but he will have to report back by 22:00? Not sure of the details so don't quote me....those G&G elsewhere are the ones who really are Grad and GO as there is a plane waiting for them or at least most of them....

My plan is wait and see and be flexible. I am hoping for a hug or two, using a box of tissues to catch all my tears of pride and maybe a dinner wiht him with lots of pictures! I am taking a late flight home on Saturday just in case he is able to visit on Saturday...if not, I will take in a few sights in Chicago and then go to the airport and home and do what mom does best...pray and wait. The light is always on. This is like his first date...good grief!

My present to my son will be his bible. In his letter today he asked me to send it, but that would be to big and bulky. I can imagine lots of workout for that. So for now, I will send him passages of encouragement and give him his bible when there. He seemed a bit tired in this letter, talking about PFA and getting cramps in his calves at night. They are doing some training for PIR, but he mentioned set back. Does anyone know when they would find out or let us know if they got set back?

Sobe, Just wondering... My son wants his contacts. His prescription is up. I can't buy anymore can he get them through the Navy? He did bring a set and his Glasses to BC but I don't have any left here. I believe he will be a Grad & Go. I plan to bring his cell phone with and give it to him just b4 he gets on the plane. (maybe a New one)

I also agree that a present is not necessary and do not believe that any of them are expecting it. I am also bringing his girlfriend who I know from letters he misses greatly. She is my neighbor and gets many letters a week, while I get one, but we share them as per my sons instructions and this way he doesn't have to repeat himself. There had been talk of marriage after PIR, before he left for bootcamp, but they have decided to wait until he finishes nuke school and she finishes college. As I told both of them, if it is meant to be it will withstand the time and distance. I know she is strong, I just hope he is also. Haven't heard anything lately so I hope the division has come together. Not long to go.

Sobe I happen to agree with you.....This PIR Graduation is in most of these young people's lives the end of the biggest thing they have ever done in their lives...SO FAR! ....my feeling is that I do not want to upstage my son's accomplishment with any kind of gift or risk demeaning this event with a gift. Afterall, what can I buy him that is more valuable to him than the ball cap he will recieve that says United State Navy on it? What gift can I give that is more meaningful than the flags, pins, and honors he will recieve from the United States Navy? With God's grace, my son will accommplish what only a few others have accomplished---what can I give him on this graduation day? Something money cannot buy --- my respect.

Did anyone from ship 10 Div 253 get mail or a call last week. I was hoping to get a letter last Wednesday but none came.

Presents: When someone mentioned that word in my son's PIR, I about fell over. I was flying out from North Calif/South Oregon and it was costing us a small fortune. Someone reminded me of two things: 1 - Your present is your presence! 2 - If they are not a Grad & Go, they can't take anything back to RTC (bc) with them, unless it's cash or a wrist watch. If they are a G&G, you are probably meeting them at the airport and will be handing them their cell phones, laptops and ipods. They don't have room to carry much more! Gifts are personal and if giving one is what your heart desires, please do it! But I can tell you - all they want is to see you, hug you and talk your head off!

Just got a letter dated July 7th, he says Fri(7/9) they have PFA-physical fitness test, WTI-weapons test and an academic test. Sounds like they're pretty busy. Hope this eases the minds of moms who haven't heard anything in a while. BTW his letter was pretty upbeat, much better than the last.

I'm bringing his girlfriend also, at this point I think that will make him the happiest. I'm also going with capri's...............So, I haven't heard from him in over a week. His last letter asked me what I would think of him asking his girlfriend to marry him. I was a little shocked, he is so young.......but if I can cope with him being in the Navy, I guess I'll have to come to terms with him growing up in others ways too................Anyway, has anyone heard anything this last week from his division? Ship 10 Div 254?

I am bring his Girlfriend and his Best friend for graduation I think that is a good present. Since I am paying the bill for the hotel and most likely their food. I have been trying to save but it seems bill always come due. Such is life. I think being their for him is what he wants the most and he doesn't expect nothing from us, but being there.
