When I read your posts I cry with you! Please have faith your recruits will make it through this. I got the "Im a sailor call" this afternoon from my son. He had BS21 last night. When he graduates Oct 1st, he will have endured a cold, pnuemonia, leg fracture, flu, athlete's foot and 6 weeks of RCU. On his graduation day, he will have been at boot camp 100 days! Today he sounded so strong and confident and of course relieved! It just takes a little time, but it does come to an end and you have to believe your recruits will make it (because they will)! My prayers and heart is with all of you!

oh my gosh, i teared up just reading that. I swear I'm more hormonal than a pregnant woman..lol. I just wish I would get a call saying what the plan is.. what the goals for him will be. Being in the limbo of just waiting, not sure is torture! Thank you so much.. you nailed how I'm feeling right on the head!

iowanavygf-my son spent 5 weeks in RCU beginning back in March. He is now in Goose Creek finishing A school. It is so difficult first to let them go and be away for 8 weeks, then get kicked in the gut with uncertainty. I understand, I cried a river of tears for my son (he was injured during Marlin Spike). He went through so many different emotions during his time in RCU, so prepare yourself for anything!!! We went through anger, fear, depression, despair, hope, determination, and back to anger and fear. I cannot imagine what they go through but they have no idea what we go through. Come here often, cry, vent, applaud, share, whatever.

If you'd like to know more specifics about my sailors experiences in RCU, friend me and we'll talk.

Encourage your BF as much as possible. If you are a person of faith, now is the time to draw on that strength, there is nothing physically that you can do, but there is someone higher who can.

One of my favorite tags is: Faith is not BELIEVING that God CAN, Faith is KNOWING that God WILL.

Thank you so much! I am so worried about him its sick, doesn't help that being a nurse and I know what needs to be done. I will continue to support him and I told him when he called we are all proud of him no matter what happens. I'll keep waiting for that phone call to explain more.. I'll pray for your son as well!

Hi Iwoa navygf... My son stress fractured both tibias on 08/26/10. 4 days before his graduation. Final run did him as he had developed severe shin splints the last two weeks of BC. He is in the RCU unit now. Waiting to heal and being able to do the final run again. It does suck for them. I can tell. I will say that this is where the "rubber meets the road". It will make them very strong individuals. They have to fight depression and boredom, as well as physical pain and healing. It is also Boot Camp. It has been very hard on me personally, but I know in my heart that my son is a strong person. To make matters worse his girlfriend sent him a Dear John letter.. He should be getting it any day. As a mother...it made me physically ill to know he is going through all of this. No matter What...stay strong and positive for your recruit. He needs you more than ever. You will be the person he confides in and "complains to". It is hard, but have faith. I am hanging onto to that for dear life. I have talked to so many people in the last few weeks who have similiar stories...on this group and in person. These guys and girls are tough.... they need constant encouragement, love, and support. Nomatter how it turns out. Write letters everyday to him... they don't get mail for the first 2-3 weeks at RCU. It does eventually catch up to them from what I am told. In the meantime, you will most likely get a phone call from him on Sat or more likely Sunday around noon (California time). Have your cell phone on and on your body. That is the best advise I can offer. I am still worried very much about Jake, but he wants to be a sailor and finish BC no matter what it takes. Stay positive for you recruit, even though you are probably crying your eyes out! The women in this group have been so supportive for me...Keep talking, reading, and praying....it is what is getting me through this too.

I was really suprised they let him in with that previous injury but.. im just a nurse..not navy. i will pray for my sailor and yours as well! thanks ladies!

Iowa- Just went through the same thing on Tues. It may be a while before you know anything. Yes send his mail to the same address as you have, I was assured it would get to them. Hopefully he will be allowed to call this weekend and he will know more. My SR was due to graduate 10/1 now it will be 6 weeks rehab and then finish the last 2 weeks of BC

iowa- yest just mail him and possibly he will call you on Sat- or Sunday, he will have a bit longer to talk to you then and maybe explain what happened and how the healing will go (I mean as to therapy or what not) and what to maybe expect.

Trust encourage and believe and pray, God heals all if we ask for it.

Good luck to your BF.

Ladies had a great 3 hour visit with my "Sailor", going to see her again Sat, she got shipping orders and will be off to TX Monday I think is what she said.
I even got a word on the newest SR. My son is well and holding up.
Kay did not see him but a good friend of hers did and even was able to tell him that Kay is done and finally a "Sailor".
Life is good, one Sailor + one SR= One happy momma...
Best of luck to all the SR's healing I will be out this weekend.

Hey.. hoping you guys can help me out here my sailor just called.. he won't be graduating as planned.. a few months before leaving for BC he blew out his shoulder in an anhydrous accident.. they still cleared him to go, however, his injury is back..the phone call was only 2 minutes, he was very upset. He had no idea at that time what would be happening to him. Does anyone have experience with this? also, i was so upset I forgot to ask, do I continue to send mail to the same address or what should I do?
Comment by Tiff'sMom (Sharon) on September 23, 2010 at 1:41pm
Hopefully that is good... I still do not know where Tiff is, I am assuming with her division, but not sure. Her run is tomorrow, I will be holding my breath! I don't think Mitch's mom has heard from him either :( It's so hard to not call and say, where are they, are they ok?
