Hey everyone, I spent the day in New York City. it's Fleet Week and I had the great pleasure of seeing Sailors, sailors and more sailors! It made me so proud and happy to know that our SRs will be wearing those uniforms in less than 2 weeks!!

la and Jessica-B - That is hysterical about the directions...My parents relatives are all from Kentucky and each summer when we were young, we would visit and come home and say "you all". People looked at me funny and said "What?" to this day I still say you all.

la - I think my son is getting a kick out of all the southern accents... He loves it!!

Yes, Jessica.  HOT in Miami too.  Looks like this heat wave has hit the entire eastern half of the US!

my hubby works for Habitat and often does deliveries and pick-ups. You should hear some of the directions people give him. It is hilarious. "Just come on down the road til you see old man Jonhson's tracker then turn down that road and when you come to where Preacher Thomas used to live turn there. You'll see our place up on the hill. Haha It amazes me how many people don't know the name of the road they live on. :-) I don't see how they find their way home. But we love it here and love all the people <3

Good morning everyone!

Good Morning everyone :-) I am sorry to see the negative posts on this page and i could say several things and get all stressed but I won't. Please just remember that sometimes things written in a post, email, or text message can be taken very differently than intended. It is hard to express or read emotion with instant messages. Everyone here is stressed and ready to go to PIR. My best advice is do what works best for you. The best thing to do if you are driving is to check out your route the day before if possible. You don't have to make an illegal u-turn and risk getting a ticket. Just drive a little further and turn down another street and make your turn or turn into a business and make a turn. Or stay on Buckley and avoid the far right lane. It ends and everyone in it will have to merge left anyway. It really doesn't matter how you get there as long as you get there. So please travel safely and have a wonderful time hugging your new Sailor :-)

I am sorry I have been away a lot for the last couple of days. Graduation was awesome and we had a wonderful party afterwards. Today we are all going for a drive across the Blue Ridge Parkway and going into Cherokee for a little shopping and a picnic. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Tzutaurian,

You must be a special person to attend so many PIRs for your friends' and relatives' children. Perhaps you could share the best way to by pass the traffic on Buckley Rd. lined up to get on base.  It's always nice to get the "scoop" from a local.  And besides, you'd only be sharing it with 71 women anxious to see their children.

I was the one who originally posted doing a u-turn after turning left onto Ohio.  We went up onto the expressway and found an intersection where we could do a u-turn.  I couldn't tell you whether it was illegal or not, we're from out of town and I wanted to get to that Hall to see a son I hadn't seen in over eight weeks!  We were told to arrive early. We arrived early, legally or not, and had a fabulous weekend with our son.

Diannep said it much nicer than I, but, I can promise you, after having limited communication with my son for eight weeks, I would have pulled a Steve McQueen and motorcycled over that fence to see him!

It's nice to know your friends on base end their week laughing every Friday morning.  A good belly laugh can certainly relieve the stress of the week.

To all the moms on 6/08 PIR, ya'll (yes, I'm a dumb Southerner) have a great weekend with your Sailors!  They will be just as starved for your hugs as you are for theirs.
