FTLW - So glad your hubby is feeling better...
Dear PIR groups,
Sorry I have been MIA…Hubby has been sick (bronchitis…he had it bad) and then we were getting new appliances…bookshelves (I am a bookaholic ) so LOTS of Chores!
I have some PM’s to get too…sorry for the delay…Hubby took the other “men” (our three sons” to a Guy night with Church buds so the testosterone levels have dropped and I can think now! LOL Hugs to everyone!
As far as the "U-Turn"...have no idea...since I have been on these boards for over a year now...I would vouch on it personally that diannep would not suggest something illegal...I also happen to know who put out the original post and have contacted them. There is an uncertainty....I looked at MapQuest and if you go left on Ohio...it turns into Amstutz Hwy. There are a couple of intersections...24th and then MLK Jr. Drive up a ways but have no idea if a legal U Turn can be made there. So based on Tzutaurian's comment and the fact that you live there...we can go on that...if you have recommendations on bypassing the lanes...please post them as that would be helpful.
"Huge rush to get there so early"...
diannep - Good advice...we were planning to go early but we do have a 3 year old granddaughter. She's normally pretty good and excited to see her Uncle, so we might just suck it up and go early - and get good seats. Thanks!
ctav01 - Congrats! How exciting and 30 minutes is great...So glad she is doing well, you will be happy for awhile...
ctav: I know that her call just "made your weekend" ! Congrats!
Norma: My recommendation (worked great for us) is to get on the earliest shuttle you can from your hotel. We were on the 6:30 shuttle and it worked great. We were in the PIR Hall shortly after 7, which means it didn't start for a couple of hours, but many others were already there. You get a better choice of seating in your section by arriving early---and have time to check out your camera (Lala's suggestion...wish I had done that...my piks came out dark). There is some pre-ceremony activity going on too. I would definitely plan to arrive there between 7 and 7:30 if possible.
We have read of others who waited in line for a long time when leaving too late for PIR. I guess as far as going early...it just depends on how excited you are to get there and how much you care where you get to sit! Also...there have been many in the past who have "run into" their sailors, pre-ceremony, in the bathroom area. A special treat!
By the way, Tzutaurian, those on the base may "laugh" at those arriving early or waiting in line for a long time...my guess is that they have never been on "the other side" meaning...they are the sailors, not the family/friends attending the ceremony. Very different feelings. Just saying....
I'm not normally a terribly excitable person...but I can tell you...I was very excited that day to see my sailor. I would venture to say that most attending the PIRs are the same way.
Ultimately, it is up to each person to decide when they want to leave for PIR. Those traveling with young children, where long wait times for the ceremony to start may be too hard, may want to come later. Just know that even at 7 a.m., there were a good amount of people there already when we walked in (we had 9 divisions when my son was there). We were surprised.
Just got a call from my daughter in division 172. She was calling to check on the names coming to PIR and we got to talk for about 30 minutes. She passed her PFA and dress inspections and got a sharpshooter ribbon for the weapons training. She sounded great and was really looking forward to Battlestations. Really a good call.
