*lol* dianne, that sounds like something my son would do.

flgirl2:  I'm staying at the red carpet inn.  Don't they have continental breakfast?

Too funny, flgirltwo, about finding your sailor after liberty was called!  Glad your mom radar zoomed in on him!

My older son and I thought we would be "smart" (emphasis on "smart" since it didn't turn out that way).  As the throngs of people headed down the bleachers....a dangerous time, by the way....LOOK OUT (ha!)....we decided to stay put and be the only ones in the empty bleachers so our sailor could find us.  Hmmmmm.....sounded good, right?  Well, didn't work out that way.  After waiting a few minutes, we realized he must not be looking for us!  We headed to the floor and mingled with the masses.  Finally saw him casually talking to other sailors....oblivious.  I even asked him if he KNEW we were there?  He said he hadn't seen us as he focused straight ahead during PIR...but he figured we were there.  Sigh....

OUCH< Tzutaurian>  NOT NICE!  No one ever told me it was illegal?  Maybe what they meant was to go to the train station and "turn around."  I sure wouldn't be suggesting that anyone do something illegal...if you knew me, you would know I am the biggest goody goody in the world.  Never even had a traffic ticket and I've been driving for 43 yrs!

So, ladies, please don't do anything illegal.  But I will repeat what was told to me by several who have gone to PIR already.  Approaching RTC from the other direction was less traffic, according to what they said.  Maybe you all can check this out with Sarge at the MeetNGreet?

Another thing that was tricky!  Finding your sailor when they call Liberty!  By the time we got to the floor it was a madhouse!  And you know what - they really do all look the same!  haha!  My husband had no idea where to look - I said hold my hand I'll find him.  My "MOM RADAR" went off and I had a hold of him in about a minute!  It's amazing!  If only I could have found him that easy when he'd slip away from me in crowds when he was little!  lol!

Hi Mom's!  My son's PIR was last weekend (05/18/2012).  It certainly was an awesome experience!  My daughter suggested I attach a roll of toilet paper to my belt, so that I wouldn't have to keep asking for kleenex!  haha!  I didn't cry that much!  I do have a few suggestions.  We stayed at the Red Carpet Inn.  It's old, but very very clean and the staff was very nice to us.  They do offer a shuttle but we didn't use it.  Instead we left a little later (6:30) and went to the Dunkin Donuts for coffee and muffins to take with us.  Turning out of the hotel was something else - the line up for PIR was already past our hotel.  Anyway - by the time we went to get coffee and went to "get in line" for PIR - there were only 2 cars in front of us.  Drove right in and parked in covered parking garage and walked into the building where you check in.  My daughter's name was not on the list as she was a surprise for her baby brother - and they welcomed her with no problems!  We got great seats in front of our division and then chatted with all the parents around us.  Met more N4m's and some who'd wished they heard of it.  (By the way we were parked and seated by 7:15)  From then on our day was amazing just spending time with our sailor.  I would highly suggest you not make big plans or buy tickets for anything until you've got your sailor with you!  Most sailors in our son's division just wanted to sit on a real bed in a hotel, watch tv and play on their cell phones and lap tops!  We did go out for dinner, but then back to the hotel to relax until we had to get him back by 8:00.  It was an amazing weekend and if you have any questions - please feel free to ask!

Good morning all!  For those planning to take the shuttle from your hotels, be sure to "sign up" for your time when you check in.  I would suggest trying to get on the earliest one.  We were on the 6:30 one from Residence and it was great.  Got to PIR hall a little after 7.  Doesn't start until 9, but there are pre-ceremonial activities and we were able to pick our seats...although there were already a good amount of people there.

If you drive, plan to be on the road earlier than that.

we also stayed at the Navy Lodge. I think it's too far to walk but I guess some more adventurous people could do it. You can also make a left turn in front of the base I believe and turn and come back for a shorter wait :-) Scope it all out the day before and make a plan :-)
