FTLW is it too far to walk from the Navy Lodge?

16 days and we will all be there!!!!

Comment by diannep on May 22, 2012 at 12:08pm

Someone in a previous PIR group suggested that those driving-- bypass RTC on Buckley, then u-turn and approach it from the other way--less traffic.  Saves lots of time, they said.

la:  Congrats!  That's wonderful!

I was a "shuttle rider."  Worked out great for us.  So as you can see from the posts below, ladies, both shuttle and driving works...it's just your personal choice.  We were on the 6:30 shuttle from Residence and in the PIR hall by a little after 7.  Picked the shuttle back up by the front gate (where they let us off to).  No problems!

Avoid the far right lane on Buckley wehn driving to PIR...it ends and you'll get clogged up.

They will have the streets all coned off and when we went SPECOPS was out handling traffic.

Here is a link to a post I did on Shuttle vs. Driving (I drove though so no first hand experience with Shuttle...but some of the other Veteran Moms have and can fill you in on that!)

kathyrc - Do what works for you! Even if you have a car...you could still use the Shuttle for PIR if you prefer...then have your car for when you pick him up at TSC GL later. Or not...and drive to PIR. You can print your Vehivle Gate pass 11 days before PIR and I believe it is available up until the end of PIR weekend.

I will post a little bit about driving next.

Momship - Thanks so much for all the info!!  I was wondering about driving to PIR also. We will have a 3 yr old granddaughter and pregnant daughter and my husband and I (going to see our son). He is staying in GL for A school, so after PIR he will have to stay there 4-5 hrs to settle in before we get him. We will probably need to go back to hotel and then back again to pick him up. Thought it would be much better to have a car?? Just not sure...How early do you have to print your Parking Pass in case we think we will drive to PIR?  Thanks for any tips...

That is awesome la :-) Congrats!!!

la, grats to your son on the expert rating. Up above in the discussion threads there is a post on what ribbons your SR can earn during BC. It also shows what he had to do to earn it. Your son will have the pistol marksmanship ribbon with the silver E on it.

Again, congratulations to your son!

I just had to brag to people who would understand.  I got a letter from my son today.  He said that he was 1 of 3 in his division to get an Expert rating in live fire.  He was really excited.  He gets some kind of medal to wear on his dress uniform.  I guess his boy scout merit badge really helped. *lol*
