Hello Future PIR Moms, I just returned from my sailors pass in review, it was an amazing experience.  I would like to share with you a few suggestions.

  1. We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott on Northpoint Blvd.  It was reasonably priced, clean, quiet, very friendly and convenient.  Wal-Mart is right across the street.
  2. Next door to the Courtyard Marriott is a restaurant called Anastasia’s.  The food is excellent, huge portions & reasonably priced.  Especially for male sailors they will love it, big screen t.v.’s abound showing sports.
  3. We went to Sarge’s Meet & Greet at the Sundance Saloon.  I can’t even begin to tell you how much information we received there.  Sarge also has a transportation service and personally  took care of my USAF son flying in for his brother’s PIR.  I cannot thank him enough.
  4. We went round and round about whether or not to drive a vehicle on base for graduation.  Take my advice, you won’t regret it, take the shuttle for $3 per person each way, save yourself  the stress, headache & time.
  5. For personalized items or souvenirs we found this great store that caters to military families in the Gurnee Mills Mall, entrance J which is next to the Burlington Coat Factory.  Gifts to Cherish.
  6. Our sailor was so handsome & so happy.  We had ideas of what to do, but didn’t make set plans.  Wanted to see  what he wanted to do.  After PIR he just wanted to get pizza & just go back to the room & chill, calling friends & family.  Giordano's was excellent, close to the Gurnee Mills Mall (847) 856-6100 7105 Grand Ave,Gurnee, IL
  7. While traveling on the toll roads be aware that the cash lanes are on the right, we missed one toll & had to pay on-line if you don’t pay within 7 days it is a $100 fine increasing weekly.

Safe travels onroute to Great Lakes.  God Bless.

A little off subject but still cool. My hubby was driving down the road and saw money blowing by. He stopped and picked up a $20, then a $100, then a $50 and more $20's then other people stopped to help lol and were handing him bills as well. They thought he lost it haha. He ended up finding almost $600 bucks. He called the police and they were already talking to the woman who lost it. So he met them and gave it to her. She was very happy; he got a hug from her but no finders fee lol. Then he was interviewed and will be in the paper. What a week!!! Don't ya just love small towns ? :-)

Bumped up the Flags and Pennants Discussion...the "something" at the top of the flag is a Pennant...it's kind of like earning a second flag.

Added a Ribbons Discussion to the Discussion Forum.

Thanks Kathy, it would be easier to spot him if hadn't gotten a hair cut right before he left. The curls I am used to seeing poking out from under his ball cap are no longer there lol.

We are having a pretty exciting evening in our house :-D My 18 yr old son has been training for several weeks with the fire department on how to put out fires in cars or in car crashes. Tonight he is working as a volunteer for the Pit Crew for Denny Hamlin in tonight's all star race. So whenever Denny Hamlin comes into pit road we will likely see him. And in case there is a fire he is ready. He is super excited as you can imagine. What a fun and exciting adventure for our future Sailor :-)

The ribbons they get while in bootcamp are the marksmanship black horizontal and the multi-colored horizontal, worn side by side on the left chest of their uniform.
