Just got a text from my sailor in VA.  They had the quake too...he sounds a bit freaked out.  S. FL boy....never experienced that before.  Glad no one was hurt.

OMGosh, Betsy. So glad that you are ok!  I bet you were scared to death!  I would still be running!

Just had an earthquake in DC.  Pentagon evacuated. Felt in NY/NJ too.  This after the one in CO this morning.  WOW....
Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on August 23, 2011 at 2:12pm
Ok, I never ever want to feel another earthquake.  I can't believe we just had an earthquake in Maryland.  5.8 was big enough to scare me.  Things were falling off the shelves in our apartment, roof sounded like it was going to cave in, (I'm on top floor) so I ran outside to get out of the building.  Convinced me that I will never want to live in CA.

Hi ladies, does anyone else have an SR on shio 04 DIV 821 in this group? Mine arrived in boot camp on 8/17 and I was hoping to get tickets to see him etc. I wanted to be as sure as I can that this is the right group. Someone, I think donna, had a web address to get your SR's PIR date but for some reason, I couldn't access it when I tried. Thanks

Thank you Bettsy. I'll be looking forward to it. Also another question what kind/type of calling card I read that ATT is the best?
Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on August 23, 2011 at 12:37pm
julie silva, yes you can send a calling card.  I would also send explicit instructions on how to use it, so that he doesn't have to waste anytime at the phone reading how to do it.

Ladies thank you so much for the. Also thank you for welcoming me. Yesterday the recruiter called with the address and all, but just to be on the safe side I will continue to write him and wait to recieve the form letter and send them then. Also does anyone know if we could send them calling cards with the mail? I also dont want to put my son on the spot with is commander.

Anything can be the norm in BC and there is no rhyme or reason to how things will go.  In our PIR group, my son left on Monday and was in the first group of recruits to arrive at BC.  I received the very first "I'm here" phone call out of our group.  I was also the first to receive "the kid in a box".  Later on, I was the first mom to receive the "I'm a Sailor" phone call.  But, would you believe that I was one of the last one's to actually get the permanent boot camp address?  Yep, anything and everything is the norm in boot camp.  :)

This is probably TMI...but I feel like talkin'...so here goes.

My recruiter emailed me the address...it was not complete...so I waited for the form letter. Now, I was one where it took 11 days to get the form letter. It came on a Saturday and so I couldn't get stuff out until Monday. Being on the west coast we had about a four day delivery time. So, about three weeks for him to get mail.

Okay...this could happen to you, it did me, but DON'T freak over it.You. are. doing. fine.

First "real" call home, near the end of it. "Mom, I didn't get any mail!" "Honey, I did write." "Okay...ugh I gottta go." "Okay...I love you!" "Love you too." click.

Don't worry. Don't stress. Don't...well just DON'T! I say this cause I know you will anyways! It'll be okay, momma!

I agree with all the ladies...it is a couple of weeks for them to start receiving mail. They are in a different area for "P" , processing, days or otherwise known as h*** on earth. As mail is controlled by federal law, an MRPO, Mail Recruit Petty Officer, is chosen. They have to take a federal training course, to be able to collect and distribute the mail. These are by Craig, retired Navy, who helps out on this site. Thank you Craig!
