Good morning all and TY veterans for all the info.  I plan on sitting down tonight and printing pics on the backs of letters and getting them ready to mail considering I got box yesterday.  Know it is pushing the envelope so to speak but hoping form letter will be in this week.  Talk to you all later off to work I go.  LOL

I like to suggest that all write their letters and then wait for the form letter address to mail all at once.  They LOVE getting lots of letters at one time...and that way, you have the correct address for sure.

Remember, mail is held from them for the first 2 weeks anyway.  So if you have the form letter address within 7-10 days after they leave, they should still get your letters right when mail delivery starts up.

Sandy's sailor, yes that's right.  My son's recruiter actually had told me to call him in a few days and he would then have his address.  My son left on a Friday and I had an address by the following Tuesday.  But, as Lala stated, when you do ask for the address, you may want to check if is their permanent boot camp address, especially if they have only been there a few days.  During their processing time, they may be staying in a different building.  If they give you a different address, their mail will be forwarded, but it might take a little while longer for them to get it. This happened with my son's address and it took a few more days to get to him

Good morning, everyone.  Hope all have a great day!

I remember now that my son's Recruiter called to get his address for me. When I called to ask about my son he gave me my SR address. The day after I had called the Recruiter, the Form Letter arrived.  I was really worried because I live out in the country and the mail service is not very reliable.
Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on August 23, 2011 at 8:45am
Yeah, you can usually get the address from your recruiter. The address is not always exactly correct but the letter will still get to your SR. Just make sure you use the one on the form letter once it arrives. It doesn't really help to get the address from the recruiter because the mail is held for the first 2 weeks anyway. So by the time you get the form letter and mail them that will be about the same time that they are finally allowed to receive mail. The reason they hold the mail is the first week is P-days or In-processing and they don't get mail until they get to their ship. Then once they are there someone is chosen to be in charge of mail and since mail handling is a gov job they have to be trained. Whether you use an address from the recruiter or wait on the form letter keep writing those letters, every day if you can. They live for mail. Also, it is good to number or date them because they don't always receive them in order :-)

Ladies your Recruiter works for RTC. He is the one who should be calling to find out your SR address for you. Please don't call. (I wouldn't want to give the RDC more reason to torture your SR) I have never heard of that before. I think your Recruiter is new and does not know how things work.

diannep, Betsy, fireteamleaderwife,  what do you think??

Comment by proud2baNavyMom on August 23, 2011 at 8:30am
Thanks Anne I may just try that today.  I have a legal pad that I have been writing to him everyday on it is starting to get kind of thick LOL.
Comment by Anne Darlene on August 23, 2011 at 2:26am
Hi all, I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but our son's recruiter told us we could give him a call to get his address at boot camp today if we didn't hear from our recruit yet (he arrived in boot camp on 8/17) We called him and got the address today and sent letters in today's mail. It was good because we did not get his form letter today, so we got a head start. Don't know if he had a particularly great recruiter but thought I'd pass it along in case it was of help to anyone else.
