Spring932 and mama beans-thank you so much that means a whole lot to me. And mama beans it's nice knowing that I'm going through this journey with people who like you said have walked a mile in these shoes. I don't know what I would do with out all of you and like spring said i am so happy to call you all my navy family!

@ Stephen's Girl:  any mom should be happy and proud to have you join their family.  You are well spoken, respectful, pretty, caring and intelligent.  Remember, how a man treats his mother IS a definite indicator on how they will treat you!  I had to learn that one the hard way!

For me, bonding with my son's gf has been hard.  But I know that she is important to him so she is important to me.  I think a little bit about that is that I don't want to get close to her and if they break up I lose her too.  And we moms are protecting mama bears.  But I know how difficult it can be for you too as I was once in your shoes too and walked a mile. I am so lucky to have a fantastic mother in law now.

I have to say I am so glad I found this site and got to become part of this group. I am truly proud to call you all my Navy Family!!! I am not very religous but I do believe everyting happens for a reason. And this group proves that we all really do need to be here with eachother.

Stephen's Girl..... You are amazing for having an open mind and sharing your feelings with others.

Thank You everyone for just "being there" for eachother!!!!!

Teacher mom-I know that mist be hard. Me and my boyfriend are a year and a half apart. I'm 17 and he just turned 19. But we have been lucky that ourarents are so supportive. We've been together for 2 1/2 years and our parents know we love each other.I think though that their support is helpful now more than ever, because although me and his mom don't always get along knowing she is supportive has allowed us to be able to communicate so much more and let each other know of any information we each have gotten through let's and future calls...
I know it must be hard seeing her on the pir list, but if you will accept my opinion, even though chances are she won't be able to go to pir because of her age, etc. Extend a call or email out to her and her parents, and even though you may not completely support their relationship, at least try to communicate. That way she feels that she can tell you about what your son tells her so then you both feel in the loop....I know I don't know your situation completely and my opinions may be completely skewed, but I hope things can be worked out for you

Hello Moms! I'm continuing to come on and read all the posts to try to keep up and see if there is anything useful I might add. I did see someone comment that we should all share our calls and letters, so just wanting to share that I got a letter and a phone call these past few days! He sounds great, but said he had been sick and on meds and light duty for a couple of days. He also said that they have all been sick, but overall they are doing great. He said his division did the best on the first test (written test I think he meant?) and that they will get to decorate a flag for it. He also accepted the position of Religious Petty Officer which I thought was ironic since we're not religious. He said they wanted him to because of his organization skills. LOL! What organization skills?? Why have I never seen these? (These comments were not made out loud!). He chatted with us for about a half hour and then had to get to the NEX to buy a watch. He's never worn a watch! I'm so impressed with how quickly he is adapting and growing up. I asked if he needed stamps or phone cards - he said he had bought them himself at the NEX. Wow! Who are you and where is my son? LOL. Anyway, he's doing great. Says they have been working hard at PT and he's a bit sore. His letter was very brief so I'm glad I got the call first. I can read his voice much better and he sounds great. I hope you all get your calls soon if you haven't yet. Hang in there - they are fine!

@Stephen's Girl...I only wish my SR had a girlfriend like you.  His gf just turned 15 and he just turned 19.  Her parents don't want them together for obvious reasons and we happen to agree with them.  However, in this electronic age, it is practically impossible to keep them apart. So this is extremely tough because when he communicates with her, we know nothing, not even that he called.  He even put her number one on the PIR list above us and actually thought her parents would send her halfway across the country by herself to see him.

To the moms of this group, I have to say that you ladies have opened my eyes. In this situation I am the girlfriend. I pray every night that I receive a call from my SR or just another letter to hear that he still loves me. But knowing you all and finally being able to understand your side and your pain going through this has changed my mind. Although I still want those calls and letters as much you, I write my SR everyday telling him to put precedence on his mother and father, because I know that for them to have to go through this and see their son grow up and leave the nest is so much harder than not knowing when I'll get to see him or when we will ever get to get married because of this new life he has taken on....so ladies i truly thank you for showing me your side, so that I can know what is like to go through this, and for me to be more mature in my decisions so that I do not take time (in the forms of letters and fine calls) away from his mother for my own selfish reasons.
