Just received another letter from my son/ recruit. He says they get to write on Sundays. Sounded good, well put together and in some areas a little funny. He says he knows what he has to do and he is doing it. He cannot wait till "A" school. It was a wonderful day yesterday 20 min phone call and now today a letter...I went from depressed to CLOUD NINE in 24 hours..!

I finally got my FIRST official letter yesterday.  WOW!! I msut say I had to prepare myself before reading it by having a glass of wine and my 16 year old daughter by my side.  Well, needless to say, she wasn't much better reading it than I was.  We had to keep switching back and forth between sentences as we were crying thru it all:(( What a bunch of babies, huh???  She was so extremly happy that he mentioned how much he loved and missed her along with how much he looks forward to getting letters from the both of us every night. He did say that he is a education petty officer?  Not sure what that is but if someone knows what it stands for and what he is in charge of would be greatly appreciated.  Im over the moon happy to have finally hear from him.. my mind is at ease now.  Just waiting for a phone call, as he said anyday now he should be able to call. Oh and ya he said he wears a bar on his collar maybe E-5, not sure about that either, but so proud of his accomplisments he has made so far and he is the fastest swimmer in his Division. :)) So happy!!!

I will certainly forward the name to whomever wants it.  The call came in somewhere around 5:00 give or take 10 mins.  I'm the one who posted yesterday about my trip to Verizon and how I was going nuts.  Can you imagine if I hadn't gotten the temporary repair until I get the replacement??  I thought of that as soon as I got the call.  For any of you who haven't gotten the call yet - if I had it to do over - I would have had a few questions written down.  I forgot to ask him sooo much that I wanted to.  But then again, 4-5 minutes went by in a flash.

Yahhhhhh!!  I got my first letter today after having a five minute phone call with him last night.  He sounds great and is doing fine.  Now I can not wait for more letters!!  I hope other moms got letters today or will soon!!

I'm getting smarter in my old age. I pre-printed labels with my SR's address. That way I don't have to write the address a bajillion times and I know there is no mistaking the O and zero.
I second the motion diannep made about having school children write letters and color pictures. No matter what type of steel front any of our SR's display, nothing soothes the soul more and brings a smile than something from a child!

NJNavyMom:  When you get the name of that SR, post on here that you have the name (don't post the name) and ask if any of these ladies would like to write to him.  Mail is like "Christmas morning" for these SRs...so if any of you hear of any not receiving mail, please post that on here and share the name by private message.  I have written many of these letters over the years...and some have been answered.  They are so appreciative of you all taking the time to write to them!

Just remember...no names can be posted on this site, but you can post that you have the name/address and others can pm you for this.

For any who are teachers or have teacher friends/relatives:  The SRs love receiving letters from these chldren, and they love writing them!  These can be sent in a larger envelope to the attn of your SR to pass out.  Make sure that there is a return address on the letters as I know many of these SR will write back!

Thank you so much NJ Navy Mom for sharing that with us. My SR is Ship 04 DIV 120. I have been writing to him everyday since he left. I mail a letter everyday, and his grandparents, friends, Aunts and Uncles do too. I have not heard anything from him except the night he arrived. I am hoping today a letter or a call. What time did he call you? I pray that my husband and I are home from work together when he calls. So my husband can talk with him also.

We received a phone call last night from our SR - Ship 03 Div 115 - He was only allowed to talk for maybe 4 or 5 minutes.  Sounded very happy, much better than I expected.  He said Boot Camp is what he figured it would be but he likes it.  Told us that Sunday was the first day they were allowed to write so we should be getting a letter this week.  He told me he wrote to me about one of the others who doesn't get any mail - hint, hint mom - so I guess I will be doubling up on my mail once I get the SR's name.  It will make me feel as if I'm doing some good and making someone feel better.  Hope he or she doesn't mind letters from an old lady!  I didn't expect him to be deliriously happy and he wasn't - he does seem reasonalby happy and I guess content is the word I'm reaching for.  I asked him if he had gotten our mail to him and he laughed and said "buckets of it but keep it coming."  He's been sharing some of it with the recruit who hasn't gotten any mail.  So I guess the advice to send jokes, cartoons, interesting articles and photos are really the way to go.  Apparently the lonely SR enjoys our family's sense of humor.  So - keep those cards and letters coming Moms!!!  I have to say I'm a lot happier today knowing he's okay and I hope all of you hear something soon.  It really is a relief!!
