My son called me earlier this morning, wow-he sounds so mature and happy. I am so happy and so proud!
@ J-man's mom. Congrats on the call! Was this his first call home or did they earn something extra. @ mamabeans - Congrats to you too!!!. I see this was your first call. What a great start to your weekends. I'm just wondering if I might get lucky enough to hear from my daughter in 117 this weekend. I did talk with her a couple weeks ago, so I'm not sure if these are makeup calls or extra earned calls. I'll keep my phone close, (as if it is ever not nearby now. LOL.)
@ML - I feel the same as I read my daughters letters. I think we will find the same amazing kids we sent to Great Lakes only better! 19 days!
My daughter sounds so mature in her letters. I don't really know what to expect when we get to Great Lakes. I am so proud of her, but I keep thinking about how quickly she has grown up. She is working as Chaplain's Assistant. She likes it.
FINALLY got my first phone call from my son! Immediate tears! I tried to hold it together and I know he could tell. He was very strong though and seemed not to waiver emotionally. He got a 20 minute call and split it between me and gf but he called me FIRST!!! So excited. He is doing well too. I am such a proud mama right now! He said that he thinks they will get another call for "bunny weekend" LOL.... damn I miss him!
Ship 3 Division 115 on the phone this morning. So good to hear from them.
Sorry to be off topic about basketball..I love football...and my Dad watched the basketball...with him gone I have no idea what is going on...anyways.. anyone have any idea when we might get another phone call? I'm thinking it might not be till after battle stations now...Last letter from my daughter sounded like they are finally moving from "I" to "we" so that is great!!
Bob'sMom: Which UNC campus were you on? Was wondering because my brother (whom Lala knew...but long after college!) also graduated in 78 from UNC-Chapel Hill. Was there on a swimming scholarship, until he swerved his bicycle to avoid a girl who stepped in front of him on campus, took a tremendous fall, and ruined his shoulder (shoulders are the "staples" for a good swimmer). Sigh...surgery and the end of his scholarship. Luckily, he was able to stay there. College wasn't so ridiculously expensive back then! Now, the cost of college????.....wheeew!
It was HARD to get on a Dean Smith team. Your brother must have been an incredible player! "If God is not a Tar Heel, then why is the sky Carolina Blue?"
lol, I hope they have all closed up by now. Yep, it was a great time. He loved Dean Smith and still loves Carolina very much. When he was there he bought a tag for my moms car that said "Teach a young child to hate State" lol and at approaching 50 he still tells everyone that "God's favorite color is Carolina Blue" lol. We love our Heels for sure.
