mamabeans....sigh....that is something that needs to be framed or put in a special place...as well as staying close to your heart. What a wonderful letter from your son!
blithesOme: I agree with Lala....usually Battlestations start for a PIR group (lower numbered divisions) a week before PIR...but there are none on Fri or Sat nights---they continue during PIR week. BattleStations is the final test in training and then they are sailors. Be sure to read the BattleStations discussion above for more info!
mamabeans - Thank you for sharing that! I am glad it gave you a boost and I am sure that it will for others! Heck, it gave me one!Like LaLa said I don't have one in BC! Just the other day I had someone totally bag on the military in general...it was a "kind killing"...you know...derogatory statements "dressed up"...and while I know I don't have to defend myself or the military...it still hurt. (Ticked me off too but that's beside the point!)
Hearing this young mans words encouraging his mom is very touching. Many moms are chastised for crying and sometimes told by others to "suck it up". Well, we are trying to suck it up...sucking it up as best we can... and learning what it means to be a military mom.
"Train up a child in the way he shall go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
That's all I want to do for them...and that's all I want for them. What a blessing for her to hear him give back to her what she has given him all these years.
Even if you don't hear these exact words mommas...I know you will see it in your sons and daughters when you are reunited again at PIR!
mamabeans that made me tear up too and I don't have one at bootcamp lol. Thanks for sharing the tears :-) It was very touching.
blithes0me- he is probably close to right on when the training ends. Depending on when his battlestations (final test) is. Especially if he is in one of the first divisions. After battlestations they have a capping ceremony and get to change from the recruit hat to the Navy hat, showing that they are now a Sailor. Recruit Heaven also called Ricky heaven is at the NEX. They get to use the phones to call family, can make more than one call, some get on computers and leave messages on facebook and they get to have candy bars and soda or energy drinks, taco-belle or other fastfood. After 8 weeks without all that they do feel like they are in heaven lol. After that they have several days to practice getting ready for PIR. Some divisions may go to battlestations a week before PIR and some may not go until a couple nights before. But they do normally go in numerical division order.
blithes0me -
This one is good for all new members to read:
N4M’s Community Guidelines and OPSEC
This is the one that will tell you what they are doing. At the very bottom is a link to the NavyDEP.com page that has the day-by-day.
What ARE They Doing in Boot Camp? Synopsis, Videos and a Day-by-Da...
This one has links that talk about their final test at the end of training. Battlestations or BS21 is done in their last week of BC. After the completion of this and they become Sailors (YAY) at some pointthey are taken to "Recruit Heaven" which is a combination eatery ( they have Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut and Subway) and video game area (that has nachos and stuff I think!) This is located in the same are as the NEX and the pay phone/computer area.

Okay...I am going to bump up several Discussions for you.Hang on!
Welcome blithes0me! Glad you found us too!
If you would like some reading material about BC and PIR go up to the Discussion Forum and click "View All" at the bottom right. This will bring up the DF's pages. Then you can go through the Pages to see the rest of the Discussions. The main page here ony displays the 20 titles with the latest activity.
There is also a Division Discussion for 117 for you to connect with other members who have recruits in your division.I will "bump" it to the top.
The main page here is for all of the members with this PIR date to connect and where we "veteran" moms stay the most to answer questions and lend a shoulder.
In the last letter my recruit wrote, he asked me to go online where I can see what he is doing day to day for the most part and find out when his training ends... He had said word was going around that the actual training ends on 4/6/12 and then they have 'recruit heaven' But A) I can't find whatever it is he is talking about that lets me see day to day. They give minimal information and I think its the basic 'boot camp' schedule he is talking about. B) I told him I would see if I found anything out because I am hoping it's not just a rumor (for their sake, not for mine) anybody know anything about this? Doesn't seem right if you ask me
Hello Ship 3 Div 118 community... We have a group on facebook too if we want to post something private like our SR names. Come find us at http://www.facebook.com/events/346938925347821/#!/groups/3693012097....
Ship 03 Division 117 females can also be included since they are bunked with our 118 females too.
So happy I have found this site! If only I had found it 2/13/12 when my recruit left! I, too, received a phone call 3/8/12 and have gotten 4 letters (including the graduation info packet)
Each letter brings me joy and the phone call really made my day. It shook me up a little, I was going off of "ignorance is bliss" now I just CAN'T wait until graduation day! Travis is ship 03/div 117... I wonder how many relatives on here I have heard about from him. this is wonderful!
