FTLW-I'm laughing because I've sent not one but two questionairres, to no avail, and yes, he's had time to receive and send back. Oh well....like you said, no news is good news and thanks to this site we can live vicariously through others in the same division.
Here is some additional info on the Navy Lodge:
I stay military when I can...hubby has been AF Reserves for 27 years, son is the Sailor...so I have dependant ID. You don't need it for this Navy Lodge. You tell them it is for PIR and they may ask for your Recruits Name and Rate (Navy enlisted have "rate" not rank...it coincides with their pay grade E-1 to E-9 for enlisted. E-3 is the highest rate they can "rank up" too in BC). They may also ask you to bring them by to verify...but I always forget if that is enforced.
It is clean, I did not get a kitchenette as those are first come first serve. We had to queens and a rollaway.TV with DVD player, microwave, small fridge etc. HAd nice furniture and a lobby with a fireplace. Hot coffee 24/7. Vending machines (variety...even one with alcohol! You have to get tokens at the desk for this.) Coin laundry, You can buy Computer time (these look exactly like the ones I saw in Recruit phone Computer room at the NEX) and pay for printer usage. Computers are in front of the elevators on each floor. WiFi has a charge. They do not have a Shuttle Service...but you can ask to arrange for a taxi...again here is where Sarge can come in handy!
Lobby has DVD's for rent, post cards and a Curio with some Navy items for sale. They will give you a temporary pass to use at the small NEX down the road...there is also a gas station (don't need a pass for that).
Here is a pic of the pass (courtesy of Craig):
They do a brown bag breakfast daily...was great for PIR. Bagel, cream cheese, chewy granola bar and large OJ...all in this bag:
Was great for PIR! I don't have pictures of the outside...only our messy hotel room!
My SR wrote that when they got their phone call on March 8 they only got 20 minutes due to the division not working together on the way over to the call that morning. Others were very mad that the ones who listen are the ones who got punished.
Ship 03 / Division 118
I hope you all had a good weekend and that the rest of it is nice! I have the house to myself for a few blissful hours!
Don't get me wrong...I love, love, love, my men...but sometimes I just like ...the quiet. Hubby always tries to take everyone for a day once a week but that's not always "doable'!
Teacher Mom...were you able to send a Boot Camp Questionnaire? Sometimes they can help get info!
Here is the direct link for the post on here. I will bump it up on the Discussion Forum and I know LaLa has a great encouragement one too!
I really hope you all get calls soon...just so you can hear your loved ones voice!
...and yes, I will agree with Kahli's Mom...sad...but at least you can share with each other and know that you are not alone. ML - yes sadly they may have "lost" the call...or time did not permit....many reasons...'fraid we have to fall back on the "no news is good news"...for now.
But I am really praying you get those calls!
Many times, they are told that they will get to call on a certain day...and you get letters saying that. Then, for a variety of reasons, none call...or just some. Sometimes they just plain run out of time...other times, your SR has an appt during "call time" or "watch" and misses it. Other times, some "lose" the calls as punishment...or the whole division can. That is why we N4Moms veterans say: Be ready at any time, any day, for a call.
When my son was there, he never mentioned scheduled calls in his letters so I had no clue! Just kept my phone handy! Did miss an "official" call ...medical info...once but when he left no message, I was scared! What did that mean? Why was he calling so early in the morning? As it turned out, it was a call for medical info and he wasn't allowed to leave a message. Turns out that they got the question resolved without me getting involved.
k peirce: It is very likely that they are able to write more often now...that privilege is usually given to them as bootcamp moves along.
Kahli's mom and teachermom:
My daughter is in 02/922 and I haven't gotten a call either. Her letter last week said she would probably be calling on Friday but it didn't happen. There must be a good reason that we haven't gotten calls. Maybe they just don't have time. Hopefully, we will eventually get one.
