Well, they say not to be out of uniform all day on PIR day...but--well..."what goes on in the hotel room stays in the hotel room!" :-) My son was dying to take a long shower...ALONE...after showering with shipmates, on the clock, for so long. Other than that, he stayed in uniform...but as long as your sailor doesn't leave the hotel room (not even going down the hall) without being in full uniform, shouldn't be an issue.
As a cop... this is a perfect example of Spirit of the Law (what the law was intended to serve) vs Letter of the Law (following the law exactly therefore enforcing it unnecessarily to where it was not intended)
Example: In Texas we have a law that it is lawful and legal for a child to consume alcohol underage in the presence of a parent/guardian. The SPIRIT of the law was that it would not be unlawful to allow your child to drink a glass of wine during thanksgiving dinner or share a beer with dad during a deer hunt (still don't agree with it, but that was the spirit of it)... instead, we (texas) have parents that feel that this law is a full authority (Letter of the Law) to watch your child get ****faced drunk and its ok as long as they are doing it while you are there. Ridiculous! See my frustration with this new predicament?
This thing has me all kinds of fired up now. I posted a question to RTC on FB.
Seriously. They can't expect that behind closed doors in private they have to be in uniform all the time??? What about those that have sex with their spouses? I think the "in public" is assumed. So they are saying its ok to hang out naked in the room but not lounging in a tshirt and shorts? I am sorry but that is just plain ridiculous.
Not necessarily...there has been a change in wording to the Family Guide (Jan 2012) concerning this subject and we don't have a clear answer for the civies in the privacy of the hotel room.
I posted what I know in a discussion up above "Rules on Liberty".
I will say here too that your new Sailors will be given an in depth briefing on the do's and don'ts of Liberty...follow their lead. If they ask for clothes now and you don't hear any different by PIR then by all means bring them...the worst that could happen is they can't wear them...but if they can, then you will have them!
Yes, they can be out of uniform IN THE HOTEL ROOM. This was the case 19 years ago too. And my son asked for his comfy jammy pants for in the room in a letter. And of course those husbands of wives will be "out" of uniform probably the whole day... so wives (and gf's) get urself ready for that one! LOL
I agree, cheer up and hope and hope and hope for tomorrow :-) My fingers are crossed for you!!!
WendyJ- I HOPE SO !! I was only curious because one of his friends from a town about 20 minutes away heard from him today...
JAMIE-SAILOR GF - I was expecting a letter on Wednesday last week and it came on Thursday. I say cheer up and hope for tomorrow!
okay...last week I got a letter on Wednesday ,,,and today.. no letter :(
should I cheer up and hope for tomorrow? ...or plan on next week??
Resently it was posted that they were not allowed out of uniform even in the hotel room but I am not sure if we got conformation on that. Diannep or FTLW may know for sure. But definitely not allowed out of uniform in public and the Sailors will all know the rules.
