OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Be sure to make at least change 3 and change the Privacy Settings for this page from "Anyone" to "Members." Also look at the info in change 5 concerning pics on your My Page.

Welcome to NAVYForMoms!

Members are looking forward to meeting you and answering your questions!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines, and recommendations 1 - 7 at this OPSEC/PERSEC page.  We ask that you not use your last name in your Username (even if it differs from your Sailor's) and not post photos with names visible on uniforms, for OPSEC reasons and the privacy of both you and our Sailors.  Go to “Settings” on the main page to set your Username, add a profile image and complete your Profile.

Jump right in!  Browse around the site and check out the groups and their Discussion Forums.  You can search groups for your PIR date, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" school, homeport and ship, and also your home state and/or city and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas.

Be sure to introduce yourself when you join a group, and feel free to ask questions - we were all new to this once  :)  We look forward to reading more about you and your Sailor!

You are very welcome.

Comments on this page are for you. Others do not see them unless they happen by. To reply to a comment here, click on "Comment Back" or "View Thread" (you will have to do that if the person has their profile set to "Just My Friends") below the comment.

Click on OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and the Page will open in a new window. Read the Page and follow the directions at the bottom to make change 3 (see the words in bold) so that this page is no longer visible to EVERYONE (Anyone) with access to the web. I suggest "Just My Friends" since you have included a pic on your My Page. (You can remove it by following the directions in change 5.) Don’t forget to click the “Save” button at the bottom.

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with you or your recruit.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info.

Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Since your recruit has a contract for Hospital Corpsman (HM), sometime between now and the end of BC, join HM (Hospital Corpsman) A School in San Antonio and check out Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program Facebook Page. You may also want to check out Corpsman Moms and Corpsmen Moms and Dads.

The Rating Information Card for HM can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/hm.pdf (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.); it indicates 19 weeks, but "A" School is 14 weeks after classing up.

Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

If your Sailor is picked for the Field Medical Training Battalion (FMTB) then check out Camp Lejeune Moms, Families and Friends (FMTB will actually be at Camp Johnson, which is down the road from Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC) or Camp Pendleton corspmen and FMF Corpsman moms.
