Debbie, Thanks for the invite and I apologize for not getting back to you. My mom made the hotel reservation so quickly that I didn't have time to process! We stayed at the Best Western in Port Columbus/Airpointe Rd. It worked out because we were literally down a light and right turn from where the recruits were staying. IT was clean, no bugs. My mom said it smelled "funny" but we were literally there for maybe 8 hours.
I appreciate you reaching out to me! Now the waiting and countdown to graduation begins... all over again! ( my son just graduated from hs in May). Have a great day!

Hi Debbie, My sailor son is on the USS Nimitz in Everett, when we go to visit we usually stay at the Navy Gateway Inns & Suites at Smokey Point, WA. Its just a few miles 10-15 mins to the base, the NEX is right next door, the rates are reasonable. 425-304-4860. I am actually here right now, lol
We have also stayed at the Best Western Cascadia Inn and it is nice as well, costs more but they do have breakfast and its about 5 mins to the base.
There are a lot of things to do here: The Woodland Park Zoo, SpaceNeedle, Pike Place and Public Market in Seattle, and much more... hope this helps, have fun!!

It sounds like you saw the best of the Olympic Peninsula. I love living here. I guess I'm pretty spoiled.
Hi Debbie,
Washington is a beautiful state, but we try to keep it a secret! I was born and raised in Seattle and now live about 25 miles south of Seattle. Everett is about 25-30 miles north of Seattle. I have never been to the Naval base in Everett, but that is where my son will be stationed out of when he's done with bc and A school. There are so many different things to do here it can be overwelming at times. I'm really glad the other mom's added to my "weather rant", I got on a roll and just kept rolling.
I hope you have the chance to come and visit your son and daughter in law soon. Pack for the time of year my weather report relates to and you'll fit right in. I'm sure your son will enjoy it here, as we don't have the super harsh winters here that you have in Ohio.
Thanks for your comment.

When will he arrive in Everett? We can pick him up from the train if he'd like. Anything we can do to make his first days/weeks good in our neck of the woods we are happy to do so.
Debbie,
I spoke with a friend from the Everett Area Chamber and have connected with a realtor who many folks trust. The housing market is really great in the Everett Area! If they are interested I will make that connection.
We love our Navy families in Everett and I know your son and his wife will be very welcome here!
My husband and I will look forward to meeting them both and anything we can do to help them adjust we will be here for them!
Manette
Hope all is well with you.
Kathy
I think he will just go back to GL for school. By next Jan or Feb he should find out where he will go and then his wife will go with him. We did get the box with clothes he wore there. We had a quick phone call when he got there. So other than that we have not hear from him. I have already sent about about 5 letters with different things in them. I'll be glad to get a phone call from him.
School starts Aug. 24 and I go back Aug. 23rd. Summer always flies by!
OSU is a good school. My husband and I went there. It is a big place though and has changed a lot since the 80's.
It would be great to get together with other Columbus Navy moms. Let me know if another get together comes up.
Kathy
