My son is 17 and in bootcamp. Never ever has he been to a psychotherapist nor has he ever taken any meds. The Doctor in bootcamp found psych meds in his record from a psychotherapy office in VA 2018…Continue
Make at least change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link) and change the Privacy Settings for this page from "Anyone" to "Members."
There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.
Since you have a Sailor, you can change "At Boot Camp now" above to “Enlisted.”
If you get an error message, then look at the area/s in the error message and unclick all of the choices in the area/s and make choices closer to the question/s. Some choices may have changed since you joined.
What is your Sailor's rating (job) or field going to be?
Jen, Thanks for the advice which I'll definitely pass on to her. It's great advice for all young people! Thanks for the info on EMs as well. I'll be honest, I'm really confused now as to why she switched. Will be interesting to see her perspective and reasoning as a young adult. I've always seen her as more of a hands-on kind of person, so this choice is interesting!
I've read your son's story to both of my teen boys now. Such an awesome example of how God answers prayer, even when we least expect Him to! What I love about the story is that your son can reflect back to it when things are tough, seems like God is silent, etc. and find encouragement because he knows God answers. And can use it to encourage others. Thank you for sharing!
I'm feeling better and better about things as the week goes. Typed up a "fill in the answers" letter to her with questions about BC, PIR, and life. Also found a hilarious cat meme to include. Hopefully the less emotional communication will help with her homesickness and perspective. Going to try to keep things lighter, Christ-centered, encouraging, and "the end is in sight" focused over the next 2 weeks in my letters. Hopefully that will help her persevere with a more positive outlook and finish strong.
Hope you have a great rest of your week! :)
Thank you Jen for the encouragement. Thank you for your service and so glad to hear it was a great career for you! She started out as a nuke ET, but switched last week to an EM, I believe. She said she wanted more hands on work balanced with paperwork. She said ETs are mostly paper/data. At least that was my understanding from our emotional call. She actually said she was interested in the ELT but didn't put in for it as she was afraid of not getting accepted and all the competition for that placement. Wish I could have encouraged her to go for it anyways! I'm excited for her life plans and thankful to hear about other women being successful during service.
Is there any advice you'd give her, female to female, that I could share with her in a letter or at PIR? She's talked with a friend of mine that was AirForce, but a Navy perspective would be awesome!
What is your son's rate? What does he want to do? I'm still getting used to the Navy lingo, and as a teacher, I'm always asking students what do you want to do as a career when you're an adult. Rate feels so strange, but I'll get used to it!
Thank you again for the message! I know she'll get through this and be all the stronger for it! Have a great day!

The Page, 800 and 900 Divisions, within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will be of interest to you since you have a recruit in a performing division. I believe that Division 953 is Sticks (Flags).
Write to your recruit and ask when Battle Stations-21 (BST) will be to know when to expect the "I'm a Sailor!" call.
