MEPS

So my so has completed his MEPS in Maine. S he has explained to me on several occasions everything that he knows so far but the one thing I do know is that he is going to be in computer/electronics on a submarine. I am so proud of him.Of course I have a zillions questions and my husband the retired Submarine officer has no inkling about enlisted. I will either drive my son crazy with questions or my husband. I wonder which one will crack first? He will start his basic on September 26th. Anybody else have a kid starting then?

Leave date 9/26

My son leaves for Great Lakes on 9/26. Does anyone out there have anyone leaving then?

Also, since my husband did Plebe summer for the Naval Academy instead of boot camp he cannot answer this question. Can my son where a necklace while in boot camp? I wanted to give him a cross before he left but was unsure if he could wear it. Also, what about a watch?

We are having a huge family dinner tonight with his step sisters who want to see him before he leaves. He will be… Continue

Confused.

Ok, so I am confused. Maybe I am in the minority but I can't understand feelings that some moms have about their kids joining the Navy. I just read a post about the 5 stages of Boot Camp and frankly the first 4 seem odd.

When our son told us he was joining the Navy, I was so proud. I still am. I guess my only concern now is where his A-school will be!

Go Navy!

It really is a small world.  We lived in Liberty from 1985 until 1994.  My son actually graduated from Liberty High.  He lived in Columbia, went to USC, and worked at the Mellow Mushroom for 3 years, prior to  joining the Navy.  He misses his Columbia friends.  I'm sure he'd love sharing a ride with someone heading this way.  He left home 2/13, and really has no clue when he'll get to come this way.  He hopes to start the first school at Groton on Friday.  He got there 2 weeks ago, but is having to wait for enough Sailors to arrive before the class starts.

I have the same confusion. Lol. All I know is before he left he had decided he was going to volunteer for combat training and if accepted he would go to an army or marine base for 3 months of training, and then be deployed to Afghanistan for a year. Does anyone know anything about this as I'm completely in the dark when it comes to that. :) or if he'll still decide to do it. I assume if he does he will go to I believe a 2 week A school?!

Kelly I would love to meet up with you there!!! :)
