OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

The navy dep Seps ship 5 group IS NOT SPONSORED BY THE NAVY!! A new group posted their link on this page for angry families. This group is misinformed that the navy.dep Seps is NOT sponsored by the navy. It is not affiliated with the navy. The admin Krista put in text that she started the group with Natalie and the other admin. They are civilian moms with active duty kids in the navy. Navy.dep Facebook sites are active duty people and families. Not the navy’s sites. There is support if anyone needs it for ship 5. There are moms have had SR’s win their appeals. There is support in many other ways. You can always find the basic ship 5 page and be found there by families who are networking to support separated SR families. Best of luck. The uncensored group is misinformed angry moms. A good page to get into is Navy and into the fleet page for the best support. The best page for ship 5 families is the SHIP 5 SEPS! Ask the admin Marilyn how to get in touch with the (T,J&C)

You are very welcome. I am glad to help, but sorry for the reason. Keep encouraging her since SEPS is not a pleasant place to be. It is good that you have gotten those calls.

Be sure to make the changes below.

Click on OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and the Page will open in a new window. Read the Page and follow the directions at the bottom to make change 3 (see the words in bold) to change "Anyone" to "Members" so that this page is no longer visible to EVERYONE (Anyone) with access to the web. Don’t forget to click the “Save” button at the bottom.

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

I see you have joined Ship 5 Moms(Formerly Ship 17). See FAQ about SEPS and http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/ship5/index.html for more information on SEPS.

Be sure to have your recruit sign paperwork with legal so that they will be able to discuss the situation with you if your recruit wants that to happen. Your recruit will also have to sign the HIPAA form for you to speak with anyone about any medical condition.

There is additional info for you at http://www.navydads.com/group/ship5formerlyship17 and http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/faq.html#separations.

FAQ about SEPS indicates that phone calls are authorized daily, but the recruits may not have access to phones every day to make calls. Those in SEPS are usually able to go to the NEX at least twice a week--females on Monday/Wednesday and males on Tuesday/Thursday--and sometimes on Friday or Saturday and the recruits are able to access the phone banks on those days and make calls if they have a phone card.

To join the Ship 5 SEPS fB group, click https://m.facebook.com/groups/535221726514465?tsid=0.5434796636246855&source=typeaheadIt is a closed group and you must be approved to join, which may take a few days to a week or so. Remember that the reasons for being in SEPS are as varied as the recruits there.

"Separated" is now an option for “Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy career?” on your My Page.

Since your recruit has a contract for the nuclear field, join NUKE moms; you may also want to check out Nuke School Charleston and Nuke A School FAQ. You may want to check out https://www.facebook.com/Naval-Support-Activity-Charleston-SC-1549626935313525/.

The Rating Information Card for NF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/nukepower.pdf. (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.)

Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. Plan to leave late Saturday or on Sunday. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

Your Sailor may have Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY; if so, join Moms/Dads/Families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NYat that time. Some stay in Charleston.

Welcome to NAVYforMoms.com!

Head to “Settings” on the main page right away to add a profile image (no last names visible, please) and complete your Profile. Then - and this is important! - read these Community Guidelines and this Operations Security (OPSEC) Checklist, for the safety and privacy of all our Sailors.

Then jump right in!  Browse around the site and check out the groups and the information in their Discussion Forums.

Join this group for boot camp moms, where you'll also find a group for your Pass in Review (graduation) date; and this one for PIR Reference Information.

Get a head start during boot camp by joining groups for, and learning about, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" School; and later your Sailor's duty station and/or Navy ship and homeport. You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas!

Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question.

This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you, and we look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor.

Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!
