For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

prototype housing
HI moms, I am new to the NAVY for moms. I wish I had used this sooner! Any suggestions on where my sailor can look for housing for prototype? He will be staying in South Carolina thank goodness, instead of NY.

My son went to BS, so I don't have much information for you. There it's a great Facebook group for Nuke moms and they usually have a list of places.

NNPMom - my son was in BS and he lived in "The Winners Circle" apts. Lots of Navy lived there and they were very accomodating. This was back in 2014 though. We also have a Ballston Spa group on here. It's not active but there is plenty of info in the discussion pages.

Thank you so much. My son initially was going to go for on base housing thinking it was all taken care of. I had him forward me the email he received and explained it was only a notification that there will be rentals coming available a month after they arrive, but that there was nothing lined up for him.
Per your referral I had him put in in an application to Winner's Circle after looking online seeing floorplans available and then calling to speak to a person in the leasing office of units available now or at least by arrival date.
He missed the response back of being accepted while in transition from barracks, so they applied elsewhere just east of the base near downtown Saratoga Springs. The lease they shared with me seemed fishy of a single old house being broken up into separate apartments and still needing to get utilities and hot water fees on top of the landlords community hallways provided. Fortunately I told them to send the lease over to Housing to look over and it was immediately flagged for fishy and breaking laws so DO NOT SIGN, just before they were about to give deposits.
Winner's Circle is less than 7 minutes away from the plant though by the private airport. I directed the guys to contact immediately to reactivate the application and they signed the leases to move in before the report to duty date. No furniture, but a blow up mattress and stuff to cook with in a safe convenient area. Whew!

I'm glad to hear that they were able to get into Winner's Circle! I'm sure everything will work out - and good that they had housing look at the lease for the other place - that could have been disastrous!
