New for him and us

Hi all, I am new to this sight and my son will be leaving for boot camp on Feb 12.  I have googled what I could and talked to his recruiter about the graduation from boot (I need to book my flight already ha ha). Anyway, do any of you know when I should hear about the actual date for graduation?? This is his first time away from home, he just turned 20 and between me and you he is sort of on the younger side of 20 so it will be a completely NEW experience for him.  Well any advice or tidbits…

Worried Mom

Hello, my child is currently in boot camp and I have spoken to him twice (three including the "I arrived okay" call) and both my husband, daughter, and I have recieved a letter from him.  The first call he seemed a bit down as well as his letters stating the PT part is what he expected and is fine with but the emotional part is really hard for him my SR has only been away and not seen us for 3 days but we still spoke with him every night.  I have been strong around my SR and he has only seen…

2 Out-of 3

I finally received my son's Form Letter today. "The box" arrived Jan 22nd. Aside from his scripted phone call (Jan 15th) letting me know he arrived safely, I still have not heard his voice or received personal letter. So receiving his Form Letter was the best next thing to being National Chocolate Day! :-) My youngest daughter was so excited the letter came, she sat on the edge of my bed while I read it out loud, then proceeded to smell the inside of the envelope to see if she could get a…

Anybody have answers about car insurance and registration

My son's PIR is Feb. 7, 2014 and he will be headed to the Charleston, SC area. I'm wondering if anyone can give me any info on car registration and insurance. Like: Does he need to register the car in SC or keep the registration in his home state (Georgia)? Does the insurance need to be for the state of SC or home state? I paid off his car and am trying to figure out what he will need to do for insurance and registration. Thanks for any help in this regard.

What I learned at PIR

I want to write all of this down before I forget.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Waukegan. It was excellent!!!  The beds and pillows were so comfy! We got a suite with a couch and were able to sit and visit. There was about 10 of us in the room visiting.  Hide-a-bed not so comfortable.  All family stayed at the same hotel. It made it easier.

The breakfast was great!  It was very close to the base and very easy to get to.

Take a roll of quarters if you drive for…

Emotions galore, but working through it

As I type this blog, I'm on the verge of crying.  In fact, ever since I received the text from him saying he'd been sworn in, I've been on the verge of crying.  I know there are several moms, dads, spouses and other friends and family members who probably feel the same, but…

Taxes

Hello.  My daughter is new to the Navy, and is just completing A school.  With tax time quickly approaching, I was just wondering if that is something they will be able to help her with at her new assignment, or if that is something I should be looking into.  She has never done them on her own as she is only 18.  Also, how do we handle state taxes...especially since I live in a different state than her dad and she is in Florida right now, but transferring to Virginia soon?

Tex/Mex No-Bean Chili

This recipe won a local State Chili Association sanctioned cookoff and we were invited to compete at state level back in 1999.  You can adjust the heat if too hot by dropping out the jalapeno or Serrano chili; or add Habanero chili or keep the New Mexico chili pod seeds in the mole if you feel it isn't hot enough.  Enjoy!

6 pods dried New Mexico Chili

2 lbs. Choice quality round steak or top sirloin, cut into 1” cubes

1 lb. 15% fat ground beef or ground pork

1 med.…

So proud of my daughter ... she enlisted E3 due to college credits and Girl Scout Gold Award.  She took the E4 exam in Sept 2013 and was told 1 day before her 1 year enlistment anniversary that she was one of the 16% in her rate (HM) who would be promoted.  She was frocked on Dec 19.  Here's her pic of uniform the day prior (inspection).

Overprotective Mom...

Ok, here I am again a worry wart....

Questions...I wrote my son several letters and sent them out.

My son and I have a thing about qouting Disney movies, We try and guess what Disney movie the qoute came from.

Just one of the silly things we do. On one of his envelopes I want to put some Disney stamps on them just because I know he will get a big smile on his face when he see's them. The mother in me worries that this is to juvenile and this might bring attention to him.…
