What's going on?

I teach 2nd grade and tomorrow is the last day of school for the kids. I work 3 more days after that, and then it is break time. It's weird to think that when school starts back, my Aaron will be in Great Lakes. He graduated last Friday night. What a nice way to end high school! The ceremony was lovely. Thankfully, the speakers spoke quickly, without the tedious blah, blah, blahs that usually make up graduation ceremonies. We are in Central Florida, and the graduations are held in the…

Air Rescue Swimmer

My daughter left for boot camp today. She is going to try for Air Rescue swimmer. Anyone have a son or daughter in this field or getting ready to go there from Boot Camp? She said her schooling will be in Pensacola. She will be testing out for this during boot camp. Had to take a nonsense job until she could do the testing.

A Navy Dad

Hi everyone: I am new here, just signed up as I would assume a Father would also be allowed on here. My Son is serving on the USS G Bush, and although he has had two previous tours in the Gulf, I am more concerned now with the entire Middle East in turmoil. I guess I will watch this site and see what you all have for discussions, and perhaps become a part of the solution with many of our concerns. I flew on 400 or so…

Hi everybody.....I am a new Navy mom, and my son is graduating from boot camp on 6/17...I know that you only get 4 passes to get in, but was wondering if there are ever any empty seats that 2 other vital members of the family might be able to use...if so, how does that work?...can they get through the gate, and is there a holding room or something, and can we save them seats?....I am praying that is the case!...thank you in advance for any input!...so happy I found this site!!!....Rita Continue

My son is leaving for boot camp tuesday the 14th of june!!!

Next Monday I will officially be saying goodbye to my son as he heads for boot camp. It's been a year since he was sworn in and that was the fastest year that I've ever seen fly by. I've been having my moments, but yesterday I could not stop crying. 18 1/2 still seems so young but I guess this is the process of life. This is all new to me and I'm so glad to know there are so many others out there going through this with me. He's heading to illinois. I will be on the lookout for other moms who's… Continue

Starting a Navy Moms Monthly Dinner

Starting a dinner group is terribly complicated (NOT!)

(1) Pick the day and ONE restaurant.  Mondays are ususally slow.  I picked Olive Garden because almost everyone likes Italian & it's reasonably priced.  Pick a place that's easy to find.

(2) Put the first nine dinners on the Event Calendar & keep at least 6 out there afterwards.  Fill in ALL the blanks & add a map link (GoogleMaps is built in).

(3) POST, POST, & POST. Talk it up.  Use an…

"BLOG OPS" PIR 05/26/2011 "Little Miss GPS"

That's what I called her. She always started out with:

"Please fasten your seatbelts."

Very polite.

If I messed up and made a wrong turn, she never yelled at me, just said, "Recalculating."

In spite of the few times I got exasperated with her and said, "Where the heck ARE you taking me?"

Couldn't have done without her and had a moment of panic when I LOST her in a tunnel. Took awhile to get her back!

FT2 called…

Son mailed wrong division #?

Got my PIR letter from my son with his address about a week ago.   Slight problem!   He wrote his division number as 618 and his graduation date as 7/15.   I looked on the navy website and there isn't a division number 618 graduating that day.. there is however a division 816!   I think my son wrote down the wrong division number!   Will the letters we sent to him still get there?   Is it safe to say that he is probably in division 816?    How frustrating!

Does anyone know...does the recruit mail out his/her own form letter with the list of 4 people invited etc? whenever they want to mail it? or is mailed out in a mass mail-out or ??    AND   IF someone was NOT on the list of 4...could they still go to the graduation (I know they wouldnt be guaranteed a seat..and you wouldnt have a parking pass ..but could they still go and maybe get in?)   thanks!!
