4 months and counting

How is it possible to be equally happy and sad at the same time?  That is the way I am feeling about Joe leaving for boot camp 2/25/13.  I should be very happy because now he will have a career and learn a good trade.  For almost 26 years Joe has lived with his parents.  Yes, he is getting up there in years but we have been selfish wanting him to stay with us as we get old.  So he passed his tests and joined the Navy on Monday.  It is sinking in to our hearts and it is very sad.  I am very…

2nd Sunday

Heavenly Father,  this is the 2nd Sunday with our SR away at BC, I pray that he and his shipmates are all granted rest today. A time to be in your word, to attend church, chapel, mass or synagog,  time to write home and of course reflect on the challenges to come in their training.  I pray that you Lord be with each of them, and their RDC's,  guide them, direct them, keep them safe and bring them all through this time with focus of mind, and body, ready to serve and protect our Great Nation. …

My heart swells!

In just two, very short days my stepson, Thad will be swearing in with the U.S. Navy! He will soon thereafter be entering in the schooling for the nuke program. I’m so excited for him, the opportunities knocking at his door, the experiences that await him and the journey that lies ahead. He will leave here a boy and return a man, a man that I proudly call my bonus son! He truly is a bonus in my life. I am very fortunate to such a wonderful bond with him.

As I sit here at my keyboard… Continue

My mailwoman thinks I'm crazy!

I have a pear tree in my yard and my mail woman picks a pear every day to eat on her route. When I hear the dog bark at her I meet her at the front door looking for my form letter so that I can send my letters to my son. I imagine she dreads stopping at my house knowing the letter is not in my mail.  My son was sworn in Sept. 18th and I did'nt think it would take this long. Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow.

Graduated!

Hang in there, new Navy moms!  My son graduated Sept 21st from BC and all the waiting, communication by letter only (for the most part, with the exception of a few phone calls), was so worth it!  EVERYONE should experience a military graduation ceremony at some point in their lives.  So inspiring, so awesome, so rich, so full of ceremony, respect, and honor.  We are so very proud of our son, our country!

3 weeks down in A school

My Sailor is now in his 3rd week of A School. He had had his first test in A school earlier this week. He made what civilians would call an A on it. Grading is different in Navy school. He said he could have done better and was not completely pleased with himself.  The grade he made does get his study hours lessened so that is good.…

Does anyone know if you can send care packages to a Submariner?

My son, Charley, has left recently for his first deployment and he will be gone for at least seven months. He has told me that submarines cannot recieve mail or care packages. I don't believe that he is a hundred percent right for one reason, this is his first deployment, and he doesn't have knowledge through experience...yet (with concerns with deployment).  Plus, I know that while on deployment  the boat will stop into port. I've read on an unoffical Navy site that mail and care packages…

Two weeks in

My sailor left for Great Lakes Sept. 13. Yesterday I really had the blues. Not being able to talk or text with him is harder than I thought it would be. How much longer will it be till I receive his address so I can mail my letters to him?
