STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND

RELOCATING:

The period of adjustment may take weeks, months or even years. For some who can not let go maybe never. Our family moved from one country to another: different language, different foods, different laws, different culture. No money to speak of - we actually owed our sponsor $10,000 in 1957 to sponsor us to the US - had to pay all that off before moving away from a God forsaken part… Continue

Please slow the time down!

My son went to his last DEP meeting Wednesday night. (Leaves Jan.4th) I always feared this meeting for I knew it would be close to him leaving us. He was so excited to get his book signed off on and show his total weight loss. (30 lbs!) He is so happy that his leaving is finally nearing. For me, I felt the incredible tug in my heart. I felt the house quieter. I felt the emptiness when I went by his room. I felt the dynamics of our home shift. Before I knew it, the tears were again pouring down… Continue

Give them wings...and both of you will fly!!!

I wrote this blog post in June/2010 before my son entered boot camp:

"Hey Mom, I want to join the Navy."

"You want to what, with whom, hello, why?

And with those words the roller coaster began, my life turned upside down and my little boy, my only child who I had raised by myself began to grow up. At first, all I could do was cry. He was my only son, an only grandchild. My father had given his life for our country and I thought, "Dear God, not my son." I was…

So hard to do things alone!

Hello,

I have been married with my sailor for 2 1/2 years; which seems like only 1 year with all the time he has been gone :(

We have a beautiful 15 month son and have been living in VA for almost 2 years. We moved from CA on April 2009, which was very hard for me because I knew that my family would not be able to be with me on my son's birth and all the holidays we are used to celebrating together.

I am an alcohol and drug counselor and have been working since I was 18 years old.… Continue

received J's box yesterday waiting on my first letter w/PIR date

These past few weeks have been very emotional. My youngest son is almost done with his bc, his PIR is 12-17, we are counting down the days now. My oldest son J left for bc on Nov23, so this was our 1st Thanksgiving without the whole family together. I had surgery on my hand this past Monday and its been hard not being able to use my right hand. I did type a letter to both my boys yesterday w/my left hand. I miss them both so much. It won't be much longer and the hardest part will be behind us.… Continue

new life as a navy wife... I'm a mess

On September 6th of this year I got married to love of my life... over the phone :/ In the past 3 months I have spent just under 4 weeks with my new husband because he is stationed in Hawaii and I live in Texas....and he just left for his 7 month deployment. I am a complete and total mess. I have never dealt with anyone in the military. Anyone who was in the service in my family was out before I was born. I've never been through a deployment or anything similar to it. Ive never been away from… Continue
