My daughter Skye left for BC Feb 21st. I received 'the box' yesterday, everything she was wearing the day she left came back to me. I sat there and held her clothes for a long time, crying and praying for her. I can still smell her perfume on them...oh how I miss my little girl. I am so proud and sad at the same time.
The letter from the Dept of Navy came this morning. when I opened the envelope...I started crying again.... I was so happy to see her handwriting, she wrote: I…

Hey all just wanted share a couple of thoughts and a video with you all...
Feb 28, marked 4 years since my first Sailor left for BC. March 1, 4 years ago N4M was "officially" launched. March 2, I found N4M, joined and it has been one of the best thing I have ever done. I remember........Karen Gallagher posting a wonderful welcome on my page....celebrating 1,000 members then later 5,000 members and then when we hit the "big" 10,000 members several of us were guessing what time that…

It's 2 A.M. Friday morning. I watched him swear in yesterday morning. I took his picture. I smiled and told him how proud I was. I got the treasured 15 second phone call. I didn't cry... until now. Rats.
I know it will get easier (I hope).…

Got the box today. Hard to imagine that a brown corrugated box weighing less than 7 pounds can pack into it so much emotion. Matt has been gone only 4 days and today I feel like a part of him was shipped home to me minus my 6'4" son.
I opened the box as if it were a special gift nicely wrapped that should be tended to with care. Inside were all of Matt's belongings, everything that he wore on his back on that cold windy night 4 days ago when we said a tearful goodbye. I took each…

zac's belongings came today. they were sitting on the porch when i got home from work. i don't know why but i was so scared to open them. i did and of course starting bawling. it's only been a few days since he left and yet i find myself still not knowing how to react. some days i feel like crying and then other days i try to continue on with my life knowing that he is okay and doing something wonderful for everyone. but inside i continue to think about him and replay over and over in…

My fiance is stationed overseas and we're trying to figure out a way to call each other that won't be ridiculously expensive. I have AT&T and I added the international plan to my phone, and he got a cheap phone when he got there. I've been calling him that way, but its really expensive. We use skype, but we usually only get to do it about once a week. So is there another way to call each other that won't be too expensive?

Got the call from Matt last night telling us that he was at Great Lakes. He sounded good but sure didn't get to talk for long. How many weeks do we have to wait for that next call?

SHIP 3 DIV 116; My son left for boot camp 2 weeks ago Sunday. I think it was the hardest thing I have ever had to go through. Dropping him off at his recruiters and hugging him goodbye was like knife through my heart. I cried all the way home and everyday since he left. I received a phone call the next night that he landed in Chicago and that he was using a friends phone that he made it there safe and had to go. Then I rec'd first of three phone calls that we will receive; Friday the 18th…

WOW! We dropped Matt off at the hotel last night, lots of tears from mom and dad. He, on the other hand, was so excited! Today he begins his Navy journey. It is so quiet here without him. I think it is the not being able to talk with him that will be the hardest.
I am a very proud mama that my one and only has chosen to serve his country but I am also somewhat sad. Matt lived with us, ate with us, vacationed with us, loved us. He now begins his life, his journey as a…

I am so happy that this website is here and I am happy I was accepted. I was reading some of the other blog post and realized that I am not alone. My son Damien decided he wanted to join the Navy and of course I wasnt happy about it because he is my only child. But after going with him to the recruiters and talking with them I feel much better about it. So since he is only 17 when he decided to join I agreed to sign the papers, and I figured he would join in April anyways because thats when…
