Can I send him early?

UGH...Sometimes I forget, even in the proudest moments, that this young man is still a TEENAGER! Heaven help me, and him. I know he goes July 1st to Annapolis, but there are those rare moments where I would like to send him early. I keep trying to remind him that even though he made it to Annapolis, he does not have it ALL figured out. I got it, I got it just doesn't cut it. I think he might have Senior-Annapol-itis....... If so it MUST be God's way of perparing me to let him go. OY!

I was honored to be a guardian of a 90 year old Navy veteran on his Honor Flight to DC on April 15. I received several emails afterward that I'd like to share with you.

April 18th, One Year Anniversary of PIR 4/18/2008.

For all the women and their families I met at the PIR 4/18/08, I am reminiscing about the graduation and the great friends my husband and I made. Lifetime friends, and through all the joy, sadness, tragedies, and heartache, and pride, we have been there for each other, and I can never thank everyone enough. We've held each other up, sustained each other, reinforced our beliefs, learned acronyms, played games, talked about our hobbies (to the point of distraction), and researched together to… Continue

One more Easter B4 Annapolis

Oh my, God has a bittersweet sense of humor. I had decided I was not going to cry in church today. Yup.... Made that decision before I went. Yup... sure did. Crazy schedule getting there, and Scott went ahead to save 4 seats so we could all sit together. Turns out... no one, goes to the early service. Be that as it may. 2 rows ahead of us was a kid in his NJROTC jacket from a neighboring school. Was fine until they got to the song "How Great is Our God" . Lost it then... I realized how great… Continue

Watching him get ready

I just added a countdown clock. Scott has a white board in his room, and counts down the days til I day...Feels more like going off the the goolag! It's hard to watch him process this thru the eyes of a 17 yr old. 9 years is a long time to commit to at that age. It is more than 1/2 his life. I keep telling him to break it down.... 6 weeks of plebe summer, than it is COLLEGE with a twist.... After 4 years, you are guaranteed a job for 5. In this economy.. it is a good thing. I know for him, he… Continue

Before I was a mom, this is not my work however it does say how I feel.

Before I was a Mom,

I never tripped over toys

or forgot words to a lullaby.

I didn't worry whether or not

my plants were poisonous.

I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom,

I had never been puked on.

Pooped on.

Chewed on.

Peed on.

I had complete control of my mind

and my thoughts.

I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom,

I never held down a screaming child

so doctors could do tests.

Well, it may not be an appointment to the Naval Academy but ....

When I first read the letter from the Naval Academy Admissions Board I couldn't seem to get farther than the first few words, We are pleased to notify you that the Admissions Board has selected YOU..... OMG, how excited I felt and my son was clearly pleased as well (but of course had his teenaged coolness prevailed). Once I got past the first few words I realized that he had NOT been accepted into the Naval Academy as a "direct admit," the… Continue

{The other side of the story} China says U.S. naval ship broke the law

BEIJING (Reuters) – China said on Tuesday that a U.S. Navy ship involved in a confrontation with its fleet off the southern island of Hainan had violated international and Chinese laws.

Washington had urged China to observe international maritime rules after the Pentagon said five Chinese ships, including a naval vessel, harassed the USNS Impeccable in international waters on Sunday.

U.S. says Chinese vessels harassed Navy ship

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States Monday urged China to observe international maritime rules after the Pentagon said five Chinese ships, including a naval vessel, harassed a U.S. Navy ship in international waters.

The Chinese vessels "shadowed and aggressively maneuvered in dangerously close proximity" to the USNS Impeccable on Sunday, with one vessel coming within 25 feet of the U.S. ship, a U.S. Defense Department statement said.
