October 4, 2010 MEPS again

Peyton went back to MEPS October 4...he is a happy camper! He got the rate he was hoping for, Master at Arms and will leave for boot in July. He was kind of bummed that boot isn't until July but I think he is ok with it now. Not really that far away and I know the time will pass quickly.

He has started DEP and was put in charge of the DEP group. The responsibility will be good for him.

Now he is working part time and working out to try to stay in shape.

...July will…

Swearing In Today

I took him to hotel yesterday to sign in and he ran into another recruiter that he knew. The recruiter asked how he did on all of his physical training. Todd said he didn't pass the running. The recruiter asked why. Todd says that he didn't try hard enough. My son doesn't put a lot of effort into things. This is why I am so worried. I know that he is going to have a hard time. The recruiter talked for a half hour on what he needed to do. He also knew it was going in one ear and out the…

Emergency travel for Moms

Helpful Hint for Moms! Ive never traveled out of country, My son and family just went to Sicily. A friend suggested I get my passport now "just in case" there was an emergency of any sort and I needed to get to them. Being that many bases are visitor friendly, the sailors are free to travel, and in many places the driving is horrible. I would hate for them to need me especially w/ having kids and have to wait for a passport. My son was in Bahrain a year and none of us even his wife had a… Continue

Mom NEEDS pictures!!! <<>>

It's hard for many of us moms to deal with our sons and daughters flying away from the nest even when we know it is for their careers and their happiness. We cry, we ponder.....we pour over baby albums, lol.

One word of advice to sailors, recruits, etc.....be kind to your family and send us photos....we live for little glimpses into your new lives......I love seeing photos of sailors and their friends....maybe goofing off at the beach, bonding in the barracks, doing the…

I am not sure about this.

I am not getting the whole story from people. I went into the bank and wanted to make sure that my son't direct deposit is set up correctly. The guy that helped me had done his BC at GL, Il. He told me about the ice cream party. They got in trouble and didn't even know it, someone brought a gallon of ice cream in the room and he made them work out until the ice cream was melted. Stories like this, is why I am going to worry.

Computer tip for those with poor eye sight.

Computer tip for those with poor eye sight. I posted this as a comment on another blog but thought everyone should know about this.

Did you all know that you can "increase" or "decrease" the size of everything on your screen, by holding down the "Ctrl" key with one
finger and turning the little dial on top of your mouse? Try it. I just
found out about this little trick and thought I had invented sliced
bread.

CHANGED RATE

I GOT A LETTER FROM MY GRANDAUGHTER TODAY. SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN AEFC. THAT IS WHAT SHE SIGNED HER CONTRACT FOR BUT SHE WAS TOLD THE OTHER DAY THAT IT WAS 138% OVER BOOKED. SHE WOULD HAVE TO SPEND ANOTHER 9+MONTHS IN A BOOTCAMP SETTING OR CHANGE RATE. SHE CHOSE CORPSMAN.I HOPE SHE DID THE RIGHT THING. I SPOKE WITH HER RECRUITER AND HE FELT SHE DID THE RIGHT THING. THIS IS SUCH A CHANGE IN PLANS. SHE SEEMS TO BE OK WITH IT.

Homesick (Navy girl)

My Navy girl, my daughter called the other day very home sick crying. We have not seen her for almost a year. I decided that it would be a lot easier if I came up with something creative.

I bought a couple of watches and I decided to syncronize them to beep every 5 hours. I send her a note saying that every time her watch goes off, mine will go off at the same time. I told her to close her eyes, at that very momment my eyes will be closing too and…
