We ARE the United States of America!

We ARE the Unied States of America.  The American way of life is individualistic, dynamic, pragmatic.  It affirms the supreme value and dignity of our great nation.  We are a strong, powerful nation with zero tollerance for such acts as September 11th.  We rested none since that grim day and will continue to protect this great country for eternity.  It was our duty, our mission, our American way to protect our nation, and we did just that.  This is a time to reflect on all our… Continue

Our son...

Our son left January 4th for boot camp.  Letting go was the hardest thing I ever had to do.  The endless emotions that I swore I'd never manage to survive.  He had gone through so much that I thought I understood, but I know now that I will never fully.  He pushed through like a true man.  He complained none, did what he had to do.  I spent so many nights crying missing him.  So many days putting on that strong face, but was simply dieing inside.  I stalked the mailman and wore my cell phone as… Continue

Breathtaking Ceremony...

We just got back from our son's PIR graduation on Friday.  It was simply amazing and took my breath away!  They were all so focused and did an amazing job.  It was all I could do not to jump from my seat to go get my son. As soon as we heard, "Liberty Call" we rushed to him and I hugged him so hard and of course cried with pride!  Unfortunately, he was SO sick.  He had a migrane, Pink eye, and a temp of 104!  He pushed through, but he was shivering uncontrollably. Fortunatley, I take migrane… Continue

Help...

Any "Seasoned" moms know how the graduation seating works?  How will I know where to sit to be at least near my son's division??  Are there signs or something to show us where they will be?  Thanks!

So sad...

Just got a "brief" letter today from my son.  Said he just found out that his division is "Grad-N-Go" and will need to be back at 5.  Didn't say what day, but I'm told that is 5 on graduation day.  Thought I had the weekend with him, now I have only a few hours.  I'm feeling so sad right now.  I want more time with him!

5 down, 3 to go!

Every Wednesday starts a new week for our son.  Since he left, my daughter and I do a "Pound it" knuckle tap to celebrate another week down. We were most thrilled today when we looked ahead and actually felt that the 3 more to go is finally not such a big number!  We are so anxious to see him and cannot wait to hug him, and hug him again!  Question?...do I dare send him a Valentine card or will that cause problems for him being teased?  Don't want to bring any attention to him at this stage of… Continue

Half way there!

Our son is half way to graduation!  He's finished 4 weeks, and only 4 more to go.  When I look ahead four weeks, it seems forever, but when I look back on the four he just did, it does feel like it went by at a decent pace.  We miss him so much and cannot wait to see our changed man.  When he called he sounded like there was already change.  I hope the next half goes by quick so I can see my son!

Ship 03 DIV 090 First call

Just got our first call from our son!  He sounded really good and in good spirits.  Said it's pretty much what he expected.  His group is doing really well, earned flag for academics.  He is "group leader" and earned his first pin!  Not happy that group leaders have to do IT for SR mistakes tho, but dealing with it.  Said they eat well and sleep as well as to be expected with 88 guys in a room!  He said they are all counting down the days to Graduation and can't wait to get on with A school for… Continue

Missing my son...

Almost finished week two and I miss my son terribly.  I have good days and bad, but the weekends are tougher.  I have more time to think.  I find myself laughing out loud when I think of the funny things he used to say/do, and I cry on a dime when I think of what he's doing and will be doing.  I really love the book I ordered, "Honor, Courage, Commitment.  It helps to understand what he will be doing pretty much week to week.  Some things I'd rather not know though.  Can't wait to hear from… Continue

Down to one hand...

Well, we're down to counting the days till our son leaves on one hand.  I can't believe how close it is.  He enlisted six months ago, and we thought we had so much time with him...huh.  We're so greatful that we could celebrate his 21st birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the new year.  So much kept my mind busy, now I'm afraid that when he's gone, all will be too calm with nothing to occupy my thoughts.  He is so excited to go and begin his new journey.  His focus and drive has kept me… Continue

12 Days.....

Our son leaves in 12 days.  I have no idea how I'm going to keep it together so he doesn't have the added pressure of seeing his mom cry.  I find myself crying in the shower, driving on the highway, or late at night when everyone is asleep.  I try so hard to be strong for our daughter, who announces daily she's going to miss her brother, and my husband who is overwhelmed with pride, the tears come more frequently.  How on earth am I going to hold it together?!  We're going to miss our son so… Continue

A Gift for our Sailor

We were at a loss of what to get our son for Christmas seeing as he's leaving for Boot on January 4th.  He can't take anything with him, so our list was limited.  We think we may have found a good idea.  I went on Oneshare.com and bought him one share to General Dynamics (Military aerospace designs, combat systems, Marine systems, etc. manufacturer) We had it framed and engraved.  No matter where he goes in life, he will always own a share in that company.  There were many to choose…
