We are doing these units. They are out of Wisconsin (of which I am a native) and were at Ft. Hood when the terrorist attack occured on early November. They lost several members of each unit. Dori suggested that we do something special on the pillowcases for this unit and we chose angels because medical people are "angels of mercy". Maryellen is our mom coordinator for these units. She is doing an outstanding job already getting us the necessary information.

467th - this unit will a combo of then bands of angels and the appliques on the pillowcases. There are 46 in this unit, 21 female and 25 males.

1908th - this unit will have also have a combo of both types of  angel pillowcases.  There are 46 in this unit, 12 female, 34 male.

Fallen heroes - we are going to give the family of each fallen soldier a pillowcase to remember their loved one. There are 5. Lyn has graciously said that she will embroider something special.  The Wounded will get the same type as the unit. FRG contacts. There are 2 and Maryellen will make those.

I am posting some other photos that were sent this month too.

This is so great! and fast! Maryellen just mailed last Wed.
Lyn mailed the 4 to the families of the fallen. Thank you Lyn.
I mailed the letters today, so these 2 units are officially done.

This is what I sent to one of the Air Force men that weren't getting any mail. I adopted him for his deployment. This all fit into one small box. I am using the shamrock fabric in the background for 4 army soldiers who are in Iraq and at the frontline. My friend who contacted the news station about HAE requested them. Kim L sent me that fabric. So perfect timing.

Sue, I found the star fabric and it was "end of the bolt" so I was able to get a good deal on it. I love seeing how others put the seals into a pillowcase!

I love the card!! When I had my granddaughters make some, they sketched so lightly. I like the BOLD colorful writing.
Thank you so much for the pillow case tell Betsy that I use it every night! I am an Airforce fireman, from Oklahoma. I have been in for four years now. Here I enjoy working out and reading a book called The 33 Strategies of War its really interesting! I am not sure what the Tiger Cruise is please explain? It is amazing that you started the "heads at ease" program. I am really impressed by that! I have never been to Davidson MonathaN is it nice there? 2598 groups WOW that is alot! That is so awesome you have made 100 pillow cases yourself! Your really a great person I am happy that you wrote! Feel free to email me back anytime! Your letter in no way put me to sleep I enjoy long letters so write on! Tank you again for writing! I hope to hear from you soon!
SrA Chase !

these sure do brighten up a day.
I'm loving that these guys are from Oklahoma but saddened that they aren't getting any support. I will have to try and fix that.
Sue that Air Force case is beautiful! I love the patriotic fabric. I went in WalMart the other day and the lady in fabric was trying to figure out how to get in touch with me because she received 2 bolts of patriotic material for $1.50 a yard and she knew that I would be interested and I just happened to go by that day and I bought 10 yards of each to make pillowcases with! I get excited when I see a new patriotic material because it seems that they all get the same thing at the stores around here.
Wow, that was a great buy. I don't find those very often. :-(
$1.50 per yard! that is an awesome deal. I better check mine out. the quilting group from the little town had some different patriotic prints.

My friend Betsy made that one and I've had it since last August! I was so happy to get to use it. I live in an Air Force townyet I don't get many AF requests. Another friend of mine son is stationed in Korea for a year and I asked to talk to him about his unit. I already made one for him last May.

the card was made by one of the students that I went to talk to 2 weeks ago. That school is in the process of making 1200+ cards for me to use in mailings. They are just a great bunch of people.
here are 4 that I made yesterday morning from the fabric that Kim L sent me. They are going to 4 soldiers in Iraq at the frontline. Thought these are bright and cheerful. The woman who contacted the news station requested them. And she was doing a St Pat's theme for her 1st box which I didn't know until I delivered them!

Sue, those are great. Wow, talk about coincidences. Are the cards printed from a computer or bought? I have not seen thank you cards like these in the stores around here.
They were printed on a computer at school-those were made by 7th and 8th graders.

Yesterday I mailed over 100 and proably about 120 cards and coloring sheets to the chaplain at the Gitmo naval hospital.
I couldn't photgraph every one, but the sheets were all colored by kids either in my 4 & 5year old Sunday night class, or 1 of the 2 schools I work at. I did color the 2 sailors and one says: Mrs Cookie (my church name) and the other says: Miss Sue and the school. The yellow card that is open with the body says "you save us".

I did write a note to the chaplain and told him about the pillowcase project. I asked if they could have them and how many are there in the unit. It will depend upon the numbers. I have to be realistic on what I can take on, even with my wonderful crew.

I got this chaplain's name from the MAS site with the addresses. I had been collecting cards and coloring sheets for the Vinson and when they left, I didn't know what to do with them.
