I understand that graduates from boot camp only have four seats for family and/or guests at PIR.  My question is... what are the odds that there will be avaliable seats for the other members of the family? My son has 4 parents, a brother, a fiance, and grandparents that ALL want to attend.  I don't want anyone to be left out, but would hate to have them travel from Pittsburgh to Great Lakes only to find out they cannot be there to see him.

Hoppi, not rude at all. We were both stupid about learning before he left. I could kick myself for not getting on N4M long before he left. I just thought the recruiter would have given him all the info he needed. I'm also not very good with the internet and didn't even think about it. I am thankful for all the advise I have gotten here now !
As long as your Sailor isn't Grad n Go (you'll find out a few weeks before), then he will get to spend time with you from immediately after the PIR ceremony until Sunday evening - he'll have to return to RTC each night. That means that he will get to spend time with your extended family, even if they don't all get to view the actual ceremony. Good luck on figuring out who the four will be!!!

Congrats to you and your Recruit.
Thanks Marybeth. Just hope he can make the decission without too much aggravation. That's the last thing he needs!!

This is the Navy Recruit Training Commands site...There is a lot of helpful information on this page. You will have to do a lot of reading to get the information that you want, but it is there and very informative.
We took 8 people and they all got in. There was no problem, no questions asked. There were quite a few families with more than 4. I really think you would be safe. I have never seen them turn anyone away!!!!
billjr, I can't say for sure but i will suggest you find a recruit with no guest list. They are quick checking ID and under 13 they say to bring a birth certificate, but I didn't need it. Not nearly as thorough as I thought they would be. Plus, it's chaos. Good luck, I do know they really try to accommodate everyone but it's a hike from PA for a maybe. Keep writing your recruit and tell them to ask around for seats that aren't being used by other recruit family. If your recruit finds someone willing to put your extras on their list, make sure they submit their list. That's really all they check for.
how do you tell how many divisions will be graduating....jessica how do you know 14 divisions graduating on 9/2?? how many for 9/17???? thanks deena
Deena, Jessica is experiencing internet problems, so I'll answer for my friend. :) She went to the RTC site where the graduation dates are officially posted:

http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/upcoming_grads.asp

Training Group (TG) 44 (hence the reason your Recruit is in Div 944-they are the graduating 900 Div) has 9 divisions assigned. Mid sized, smaller than many past PIRs, a little bigger than some others. :-)
i still don't understand what about the 300-div that are also going to graduate on that day
Deena, here is what you will see on the RTC website for PIR 9/17:

TG 44 — 9 Divisions (309–316 & 944) Graduate Friday, Sept. 17, 2010

Notice, that there is no 800 Divs (Spec Ops Recruits) graduating that day. The 9 Divisions includes Divisions 309, 310, 311, 312, 313, 314, 315 and 316. Your Recruit's Division 944 is the ONLY 900 Div graduating that day, along with all the others-the eight 300 Divs. You will see two other 900 Divs (Jr. Divs in their 6th and 7th weeks of training) performing along with yours, but those Recruit's parents/loved ones will not be in attendance.

Btw: on PIR morning, each graduating Division has a specific bleacher assigned to them and that is where you will sit, in the assigned 944 Division bleachers. There is limited space in each of those bleachers, so come early. (Gates open at 6:30 a.m, plan to be seated by 7 or so.) They don't allow people to stand in the aisle/stairways, but there is overflow seating in the balcony above. Hope that helps you picture it better. :-)

p.s. Don't forget to tell your Recruit to order the PIR DVD so that those who cannot attend can still see the ceremony!. You can go to this discussion in the New Moms Group to read more about the 4 guest limit for graduation:

http://www.navyformoms.com/group/newmomsstophere/forum/topics/gradu...
I was there on Friday August 6th and there were empty seats and there were 840 graduates. They did really check very close.
Hi Bills Mom, I see that you have already attended your sons PIR and you had the same dilemma with guests that I am having. Did all of your people go and did they get in to see the graduation ceremony? I am trying to keep peace in my family. lol
