The USS Abraham Lincoln will be deployed for Christmas and has given approval for the ship to receive pillowcases while on deployment.   That will be 5,000 or more strong.

The main postings for this project will be in the Lincoln group under the thread called "The Lincoln Family Love Pillowcase Project".

I will update here as well so you don't have to join the Lincoln group.

Let us know what you can do to help us get the ship done!

okay, this is what SA finally posted tonight. She did post an address but then took it off. I want to know the latest that can be mailed cause I still am not going to mail them early to have them sit in a room.

Comment by StephanieAlice 3 minutes ago LADIES:
I have a lot of news for today
I went to base and was speaking with the Lincoln Beach department chain of command. They got in touch with the ship and reassured me the project is allowed and they are aware of it. Also that they are going to do there absolute best to ensure that every sailor receives a case. They will also be working with me here on trying to get some sort of exact numbers and possibly some answers to unit division numbers. I also have the address for you ladies to start mailing to.
MAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
If your ackage all goes to a specific group CLEARLY and DISTINCTLY Mark that on the box. If you have a sailor who will be dispersing them among there group also mark that distinctly. Make sure all boxes state "USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN CHRISTMAS PROJECT" If a box is for general sailors write on it Any Sailors somewhere on it. If you want them all to go to a group but do not know specifics on names like say you wish to do a medical unit or something then just write on it MEDICAL GROUP somewhere. I will be going through and adding specific groups to my cases "IF" we are able to get any more information or numbers.

So crew, you tell me. about an hour ago, I said no to the medical and possibly the firefighters. Do you want to wait and see? need your input.
Maryellen, I agree with waiting and seeing and about not wanting them to sit in a room. Personally, I would prefer to mail directly to our POC on the ship. I figure my pillowcases will find a good home, whether it be the Lincoln or somewhere else, so I am continuing to sew, albeit rather slowly.
So ladies, I ask your forgiveness if I was short tempered and ugly in any way this past week. I just felt crushed by that letter from the JAG guy for the Lincoln. Overwhelmed and filled with so much pressure. and so sad.

I am still commited as a Lincoln mom to doing VFA 34, and 1/2 CS unit. I wrote to the firefighter one more time yesterday trying to get information. But I will defer to you, the HAE crew about what you want to do about any other unit. We just aren't getting the numbers that we like to work with. Jackie could use some help with another air unit-they do the cables etc for the planes. A very dangerous job. Do you want to consider this?

I am also going to cut and copy what I just wrote and post in the Lincoln thread.
So let's discuss those decisions in there. Thanks ladies! have to get ready for church now.

I so appreciate you all!
a photo of Ben and me taken a week ago. Shirley, a Cleveland mom had that pc made for Ben. He brought it so I could see it and take a photo.

Ben and me with Ashton's pc

Sue, Love the pictures.

I have about 50 pillowcases after the ones I'm sending to the Wounded Marines group.. I'll just hang on and see what you want me to do. I doubt that I can do the Nukes on the Lincoln. I haven't heard anything and I can't do 400+ for them. So, I'll save them and you can let me know what to do.
I don't mind sending them as long as I have a POC to send them to directly. I checked with my Post Office again on Sat and they insist that they won't accept any package without a specific sailors name on it. They won't ship to a unit or Any Sailor on a ship or in Afghanistan. So it wasn't just the Lincoln they had a problem with. He said,"the military gets so many packages at Christmas time, that we have to be extra careful that only those to specific sailors or soldiers get into the system.".It is apparently a major security issue.
Lyn, I absolutely agree. Let's just wait and see., I do have someone else working on the number issue. I will also contact that other navy mom who wanted to work on the nukes. maybe she has a number and a POC.

400+ is too many even for us to do. with the others already commited.
Hi VFA 34 ladies,

I would like to "talk" about the pillowcases for the squadron. I have tons set aside, but know that some of you were either sewing or having someone sew for you.

So would like to get a count from you on how many you are doing. I am doing the command since I committed to do the squadron back in Feb.

If you have any special ones, please make sure they are labeled.

VFA 34 will be sent to a friend of Jackie D, not to the address that SA has given. I am not at peace about that and please remember, that I have personally mailed thousands of pillowcases since 1-09 with my project Heads at Ease.

Jackie's friend will personally deliver them to the base when they need to be there. It is important that our squadron's all go to the same place. If you have less than 20, then mail them to me. If you have 20 or more, then I will give you the address so you can mail direct. no sense giving the po anymore money.

thanks, got to get ready for work.

it is a really cool one too. thanks again Shirley!
DC, alittle trivia for you. remember you said quite a while ago about a quilting group in Maine that made pcs and used the high end fabric?

the mil of VFA 34 ombudsman was supposed to get 400+ pcs donated from this group. It was the maine fabric. But when she double checked on them, they had been sent to Afghanistan. I am thinking that was the same group that you mentioned.

My son told me tonight that he would be the POC for his squadron. That's good for me.

does anyone have Boston Red Sox fabric? He requested another pc. thanks.
have 2 more fabric needs: Philadephia Eagles and Houston Texans, a football team whom I have never heard of.

HELP!
Sue: If you have any fabric needs from the South, let me know!!!
Granny V if you can't let me know because the Houston Texans are a local team and I shouldn't have any problems finding the fabric.
