This letter from ALFA came on  October 25, 2010 at 4:39pm

Dear Ladies,

Thank you for your support and we apologize that some of you are upset about the turn of events with the Lincoln Pillowcase Project. ALFA is committed to supporting you in your efforts to make this project go. We would like to make you aware of the “behind the scenes” actions that will hopefully boast moral and get us back on track to make sure that the sailors of the USS Abraham Lincoln know how much we appreciate and support them. First off, we would like to address the issue of Mrs. Stephanie Wilcox, the former project coordinator. It was brought to our attention that Mrs. Wilcox had not obtained approval from the CMC or CO of the Lincoln. We are aware that she obtained approval from the Strike Group 9 Legal Department but approval needed to be obtained from the CMC or CO of the Lincoln as well. After lengthy conversations with Mrs. Wilcox to obtain the information ALFA needed in order to take this project to the Lincoln for approval, she told two of our Board Members that she was quitting the project because it was too stressful. Finding a new coordinator was a logical first step for us as we did not want this project to go to the way side and reality is that command approval would not have been granted to Mrs. Wilcox. Command approval was granted to Heads at Ease as they are an established group with credibility behind them. Heads at Ease has done this project for many other service members that are serving our country. Yes, you could have sent the pillowcases you made out to your individual sailors or even to their friends but without command approval or support there was no way that all sailors would have received a pillowcase, which is the goal that we are working towards. Second, is the issue of the project name change. The name of the project was changed because not all of the pillowcases will be done in time to make it to the ship for Christmas and as an added bonus, we do not offend those service members who are not of the Christian Faith. Thank you again for your continued support of our service members! If you have any further questions please contact ussalfa@hotmail.com.

Cordially,
The Abraham Lincoln Family Association

The notes and labels that Dori has designed, have been amended to say Lincoln Family Love, as this project has now been opened up to the entire Lincoln family, not just N4M.

I love the bright colors on the pcs Sue. DC the fish fabric was so pretty and felt so soft but was a pain to sew with as a matter of fact I still have one that I put back in my stack to finish later because I was tired of fighting with it . Sue the blue with the burgundy is some material I bought from Joann's website and when I got it in it was waves on what worked out to be the back of the pc and the front colors with the burgundy and orange reminded me of a sunset. So I thought waves and what a sunset would look like if you were out on a ship perfect to send to our Navy. I orginally bought a couple of yards not knowing what it would be like and when I got it in I went back and ordered a whole bolt of it and it was on clearance for $1.57 a yard. That pc ended up being a solid piece but I made others with different colored bands or bodies and I just love the way they turned out.
I remember seeing that before now that you say that. In fact, I went to the website in the spring thinking that would be great apron fabric for the nautical themed Vacation Bible School at church this summer, but couldn't find it.

Great job as always. I took a photo of the longhorns. now to get them into the computer, will post soon.
Sue, I'm ready to send my 260 pillowcases. I've found a friend who is willing to pay for the shipping. But I don't know where to send them. Do we have the address? Have I missed that piece of information somewhere? Thanks for your help.
Maryellen,

Has anyone been in contact with Linda, last I heard from her she was unsure where to send the ones she is doing for the navigation dept. I have been e-mailing with her to coordinate shipping of the material and cases that I have gotten for her that she was needing.
She hasn't been able to get on here much, been spending alot of time with her sister who just had surgery for cancer. But she is still working on cases when she can. Not sure how many she has left to go, i just know she said she was out of the blank cases which i'm sending out today priority mail so she should have them in a few days.
Mary, Are we expecting the pc to be on the ship by Christmas or is that no longer a realistic goal?
Well, lets see if this works!!!! Just a few pillowcases I got done today.....
