My daughter leaves for bootcamp November 9th.  This will be the first time she won't be home for the holidays.  I was just wondering what happens during Thanksgiving and Christmas???

well, we just got the adopt a sailor form in the mail on monday, his mom isn't sure if she can go or not.. but it said we had until the 15th of november to fax it in! so i don't think that it is too late yet!
I saw on the Navy website today that they DO have adopt-a-sailor and they had to stop taking applications because they had "an overwhelming response"!!!!!!! Hopefully your recruit will be allowed to share a meal with a host family. Host families go out of their way to provide a great meal and fellowship for recruits. Yes, it stinks when recruits miss the holidays but host families are the next best thing! God bless America!!!!! Good luck to your daughter. My daughter graduates from boot camp the day before thanksgiving.
Not all recruits get to go, they have to have been there a while. If they haven't been fitted for their dress uniforms and had them issued, they can't participate as they can't leave base. Around week three, I think, I'd have to double check.

I was in for the holidays, they get a good meal, time to go to church if they want, and a relaxed schedule.
Last year only recruits in their 6th and 7th weeks of training were allowed to go, and not all divisions had the chance. As I understand it, RDCs made the decision, and some decided that their divisions had not earned the privilege of leaving base.

Recruits get dress blues and whites in the 5th week, just before they do the formal portraits.
Id like to know the same thing. My daughter left for bootcamp on 9 Nov. as well.
thanks for any information.
April
