I didn't know white soldiers can call black soldiers niggers to their face and no one does anything....when everyone there is serving the same purpose.....

White people let me ask you a question: Why does your race of people call black people niggers?

Don't know about others, but I HAVE NEVER used that term nor will I even type it in my reply to this question.    So please don't accuse all whites of being that way.  In my experience I have found those that do are ignorant

If you have a Sailor and he had this happen than he should report this.

I am old enough to remember the leftovers of segregation.  Even as a small child I was appalled at the notion.  I have not, nor will I ever, use that word.  No one in my family, or in my circle of friends, uses that word.

I think you are here just to stir up trouble, not to ask a serious question.

I agree with Anti M on this one...recommend no one answer this post as she is just trying to get our goats :~}  I posted the link to explain the Navy's policy on something like this above.

Its a shame that he has to put up with comments like that. Its also sad that people let words offend them so much. When you let it get to you the other guy wins. Just smile and be happy that your not as miserable as he is.

On a lighter note..I am the only son in my family, had to grow up with 5 sisters. So I have been called everything. There is NOTHING anyone can call me that will get to me. LOL

Your right Angie, I had already repied before I read your comment.

My older son is an officer in the Navy. My younger son was at West Point (United States Military Academy - service academy for the Army). The is zero tolerance for racist remarks/name calling. When an officer does something outrageous, it's not just the officer whose reputation and professional honor will be on the line, it's goes up his chain of command.

These photos were taken at a West Point function. I never heard a racist remark directed at any one. I am not related to any of four black cadets (pictured above). I didn't know any of them personally until that weekend. They were great young men and women dedicated to becoming officers in the Army. It was my privilege to meet and get to know them.

If your sailor is experiencing a situation, please tell him/her to follow up.

To those who have judged me and don't know me ...... that's why I asked the question.

To Angie and AntiM.....you both have judged me and don't know me. I am not here to stir up trouble as this is my first post since joining this site...... I guess that's why people use the N word because they think something terrible about you before they get a chance to know you.....

But thanks for the info...... My son will have to learn that he is there for a specific reason, and it is not to entertain negatives but try to be as positive as he can. This is his future and he cannot let those "who judge first and ask questions later" get him angry......

Any kind of prejudice is wrong and in 2011... there should be repercussions from it. But it lingers on...... like it's still okay.

You are being prejudice, by coming in here saying what you said...if you would have came in here and said..  My son was called a racial slur, how can that be?  I can bet you would have gotten a different response.

If I said to you...why do your black people call each other N....?   How would you feel?

I was not going to respond to this because the way the question was worded made me angry. and I read the other postings and felt I could not add to it but now think that while your purpose was not to stir trouble it was very annoying. So I will ask you a question in return....Why did you say or refer to all white people??  Why paint us with the same brush without knowing us?? Like many posted here I hate that word not only from a white person's mouth but also from a black person's mouth to me it is a disgusting word. I met a very wise black man a few years ago , he sat on the board for our local school system a student was brought in because of a fight the board member asked what was the cause the student replied he called me n____.the man asked what is your name student told him this was repeated several times the board member then asked why did you answer to that word then??

I wondered the same thing.. if it is offensive when white people say the word, is it still offensive when their own say the same word?

I judged the content of your post, it was not worded as well as your reply.  Read it as if you were reading it with no context, it is inflammatory.  You may think it strange, but I have a very strong reaction to that specific word.  I wouldn't use it even when talking about racial slurs!  Seriously, I was raised that way. Mom would never allow cursing in her home, and that word was the number one Bad Word.

I was in the Navy, a long tome ago, but I never heard that word used toward my shipmates of color, ever.  I never thought twice about race unless I was sitting in EO training where it was discussed.

It is a shame someone has used hatred toward him, and that it was not dealt with properly.  Angie's information should help.  I hope he finds the good and true-hearted people who serve, and none of the cruel, mean and ignorant people who slip into the service.
