OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Has she been put into a FIT program? If so, she'll have extra PT which will get her into better shape until she can pass. She'll then join a different division and go through BS with them prior to PIR. Some are delayed a few weeks, some longer. Good luck to you all. Know that she's doing her best to improve and just continue to send her supportive letters and prayers.

You are so helpful, thank you! I don't know about the fit program. I am sure I will hear what's going on via mail in a couple of days. I wish I could monitor her progress like I do with our other kids @ school!

Mine is still there . She did not make the run on the pfa by 15 seconds I have been crying for the past couple of days. I was told that they will run her until she passes the un then she will go to the battlestation and then on t her a school.. They will not be allowed to PIR. I hate that she will not be able to march in like the rest of the sailors.

i know as bad as I feel I cant imagine how bad they must feel. I am not disappointed in her just the system. It seems like the navy would have complted everything in the first 7 weeks and leave the the last week for the SR's who needed to make something or or retake a teast over. I dont know why they wait until the last minute to test these kids.

@ amrsmom, Because then they would be there ten weeks or more, which is not cost effective. The military is expensive, and trying to be mindful of our tax dollars wherever possible. As it is, there is a ton of training crammed into a short amount of time. They do retest all through bootcamp, for academics, physical fitness, swimming, and not everyone is going to pass everything in the time allotted. The overall drop rate was around ten percent when I was in, the new remedial programs may have reduced that number. Recruits are lucky they get the opportunity to pass one more time, or they'd be on a bus home.
The FIT program gets most of the recruits through the parts they are having difficulty with, the Navy would rather have sailors than drops who must go home. "The system" has been refined for generations, they really do know what they are doing. Just doesn't seem like it from the civilian side because your emotions are so heavily involved in your child's success.

For your information she was training and working out before she left for Boot camp. This child went from not be being able to do one push up to 45 pushups on her own and also running everyday to get ready for boot camp. So before you question why she was not ready first know the facts. This site is to encourage and assist people and not frown upon people who are going through a difficult time. Shame on you both . For you two with the smart comments I truly wonder what exactly would be your thoughts if your SR did not make the PFA. Lady Hamilton her PFA was on Monday the makeup was on the next Friday. The PIR Friday to be exact so tell me how that is not waiting till the last minute and where are the multiple opportunities to pass the PFA if the next makeup is after the PIR. For Angie, I am not and will not ever be disappointed in my daughter. No matter what the situation is or was. A truly loving and supportive mother is never disappointed in their child.

I've been through boot camp, I struggled with my run and failed at least once. There was no FIT program to help me, I ran at zero dark thirty with our PT petty officer. It sucked. I busted ass because I did not want to get set back.
I understand you love your daughter and are proud of her. Just saying you don't know a thing about how boot camp really works. There is NO TIME to wait for recruits to catch up. They pass or they pay the price of not marching. Boot camp isn't about making them feel good about themselves, it is about making capable sailors. This may seem harsh, but it is what it is. The military. PIR is a privilege, a reward for excellent performance, and yes, some recruits miss out on it. I am sorry it was your daughter, but it is on her, not "the system".
Why is the make up on Friday? Because all the graduating divisions are doing battle stations during the week, and all the make ups are held at one time for all those who did not make the PFA. That means Friday. Is that incentive to push as hard as possible on all things, including PFA? I'd say yes.
She will have to pass that fitness test annually. Better get used to it and stay strong for it, or she will only have one enlistment.

Brigette - Just hang in there. If at the end of the day she can say "I did my best today", then she has done her job. Everyone in life has a "Weak Link", there is always something people will have trouble with. Learn to overcome those problems and continuing moving down the track By the Navy allowing her to be in FIT, she will do that. The Navy will give her a bunch of chances to pass. But they also know that they have to cut their losses, if those recruits give up, or can't meet the same standards as everyone else. When she is finally done, she will know that she meets the same standards as everyone else. In the fleet, we rely on sailors that meet our same standards. It's being a team!
Now let me hammer on a comment that someone else made...
amrsmom - Why blame the system? The Navy is allowing these recuits to have a "Do over", and trying to get them to be at bare minimum in passing. In the fleet, if they fail the PFA 3 times in a 4 year period, they are given the boot. They will be discharged for not meeting the minimum standard. Why? because as a sailor I want to know that the person serving next to me meets the same standard as me.
I too, have to agree with Angie, LadyH, AntiM... They are telling you the truth. Yes, we never want to believe our kids are the problem. If the Navy was doing their job correctly, they wouldn't have allowed her to ship for boot camp because she couldn't do 1 pushup. They should have waited until they knew she could pass boot camp. Yes, they allow the deppers that are really close on the minimums to ship. They even allow those that are really close on the body fat to ship too, but why allow someone that can't even do 1 pushup.
Per the comment about completing all the things in 7 weeks. Don't you think your daughter has in the back of her head that she knows you'll be coming to PIR? Don't you think this is a real motovational thing to know that if she doesn't pass, then her parents may be there to see someone else graduate? The bottomline is this was all upon her, she knew the rule, was explained the rule (in detail), and she didn't meet the rules. If 50,000 recruits can pass each year, what make her any different from them? Again, your comment about the "system" being wrong is totally unsatisfactory.
