My son asked me to get him a good American Flag. He said he can have it flown on any base or ship he's on...called it a career flag. Has anyone heard of this?

My grandfather's flag only has 48 stars....

that's neat I've never heard of that.

Ok, so there is such a thing. How does this work, does he just ask it be flown at a specific site?  His Birthday is soon so I'll get him one. Hmm, the Constitution, Boston isn't too far from me.

Getting one flown on the Conny is backlogged a few months....

Ever wonder how to have an American flag flown over "Old Ironsides?" It's easier than you think!
Any military member may send a standard-sized flag to be flown on board USS Constitution. Just send the flag to:

Include with flag:
* Full rank/name of who flag is being flown for,
* Reason for flying (retirement, reenlistment, general purpose),
* Return address on where to send the flag.
Upon return, a certificate will accompany the flag. Flags can be flown on certain days if requested. Flags are sent back regular mail, but if a service member needs it a bit faster, they can enclose a pre-paid FEDEX Fed·Ex

Never heard of that, what I have heard of though is people retiring (after 20 years +) who have a cermoney, have a flag flown over their commands they where stationed at.  But doing it this way would be way easier!   I had a CMC retire at 30 years and we started two years before he retired to have the flags flown everywhere.

As for how to do it, all you have to do is request it (meaning the Sailor) while they are stationed there.  The command handles the rest.

If you are a family memeber doing this (to start it out) you could always get ahold of the state capital in your state and request a flag be flown there....my little bro did that for me one year.  Think he just bought a flag from them (the state capital).

Great Idea!!!

Great info. Thank you all.
