In my daughter's letter she mentioned only having two hours after graduation to spend with us, as this is in her first letter home does she really know this soon? Does that mean she is a grad and Go? We booked the room for the entire weekeknd thru Monday and are not changing "just in case". Just looking for other mom's opinions or experience here.

i don undersatnd my son wasnt grdand go but he had to stay on his ship every night we coulnt keep him wit us at hotel.why does some sailors get to and some dont..
Judy, My son doesn't leave for a school in california till oct 2 but he also said he has to be back at the ship every night. What is your son going to school for. Do you where school is? Maybe it has to do with their specific a school. I'm just guessing though. Susan
OMG Donna, sounds just like what I went through with my son and his girl friend. PIR was so stressfull (he was a Grad N Go) and the 2 hours we had at the airport I spent most of the time in the bathroom getting sick due to a nasty migrain.
sorry to hear that, maybe you can talk her into not having him come, ha ha! and tell him after her A school she would have more time. ha ha, sorry that is very selfish of him.
Our son was grad and go on 8/22. He was leaving for A-School in Pensacola, Florida. We only had about 20 minutes with him on base. The Navy has some buses leaving early and some later. We went to the airport and got to visit with our son for about 3 hours and then he left for Florida. You can get a gate pass at the airport. By the way, some sailors wait months for their classes to start. Our son was lucky. He only had to wait 2 weeks.

Unless your sailor is staying in GL for A-School, they will not be permitted to sleep off base. You will be able to pick them up each morning and they must be returned at a specific time also.

My advice is to make the most of whatever time you have. Be positive and have fun! Hopefully you will be able to visit your sailor while they are in A-School.
Thanks Kimberly. Her recruiter is a good one. I have heard horror stories. We are lucky!! Unfortunately if she goes to Mississippi for A school it is too far away. We live in Virginia and both myhusband and I work at the same place and it was hard just getting time off for Graduation. We run a small car dealership that only has 4 people who work here and without us they don't have a clue!! So sad but true. So getting more time off would be impossible.
Oh well we will cherish every second we get with her.
My son graduated on 8/1 and he is in GL for A school. He did not move over to the other side of base until the week after PIR. He did get to spend the weekend with us but only until 8:30 in the evening. He then had to be back on ship. Sometimes they get to spend the whole weekend with their families it all depends if they move over to the school side that day. I agree it sounds as if she is grad n go. What is she doing for the Navy? What A-school?

Courtney is a Yeoman and before she left her recruiter sadi her A school could be GL or Mississippi, So we don't have any definates now, I'm going to call him in AM and see what if anything he can find out at this point.
That would be AWESOME!! I'm not sure how long A school is. Did you know before your son left for BC ?
The recruiter will know how long his A school is. Before my son left for BC back in January he know how many weeks his school was going to be.
Yes If they go straight to A school they get two weeks leave before they go to their station.
Carol,
To find out if she is a grad n go call RTC Public Affairs at 847-688-2405. They will tell you and they are very nice. Good Luck and let me know how you make out.
