It's probably early, but I'm anxious to book our hotel for PIR. We are planning on arriving on Wednesday and staying thru Sunday. I haven't started much research but have been reading other posts. Have any of you made decisions regarding this yet?

I would hope it would be...I have heard so many good things

I have booked at Navy Lodge for 9/12-9/15 66.00 dollars a night.

Christina, do you know if you will be attending a meet and great in Chicago yet? Several of us are planning going to Sarge's. What is your ship and div number?

Does anyone have the number for the Navy Lodge?  I would like to book as well, I just got my letter today and would like to book.

Good idea, MamaLama, to stay through Sunday.  Travel plans for your sailors can change.  Sometimes, they fly out on Sundays rather than Saturdays.  Sometimes even later.  GL A School students should have daytime liberty Sat and Sun until around 8 pm.  So for those who have sailors staying in GL, for sure stay through late Sunday.

For travel, you all should consider Southwest Airlines.  They fly into Milwaukee (45 minutes from GL, no traffic) and Chicago-Midway (furthest airport and could have traffic depending on when you arrive/depart).  They have NO CHANGE FEE if you have to change your flights.  First 2 bags check for free.  Had to change mine when my son was there because he got setback a week...hadn't booked on Southwest (didn't know back then---2009!).  $150/change fee per ticket, but cheaper flights cut some $$s off of that.  Ended up being like a $89/change fee.

We stayed at Residence Inn Waukegan.  Loved it.  Studios and 2 bdrm 2 bth for larger groups....all with full kitchens for those wanting to cook for their sailors!  Pet friendly too!  Bring them!  Hot buffet breakfast service earlier on PIR Day.  PIR shuttle as well.  Not far from Sarge's MeetandGreet, about 4-5 miles from RTC.

Whatever hotel you book, be sure to ask for Navy Graduation discount.  You can also use AAA (what we used) or other discounts.

PMBirdsong:  All of the MeetandGreets are "kid friendly" so please plan to come!

Navy Lodge  847-689-1485

Residence Inn Waukegan  847-689-9240

Springhill Suites Waukegan   847-688-9800

Courtyard Waukegan    847-689-8000

The last 3 hotels all have PIR shuttle service.  Navy Lodge does not but is very close to RTC.

do you recommend shuttle or take your own...

thanks, that is great info

How does one get to the Base from the Navy Lodge?  I will not be renting a car.   What else is there to do near the Navy Lodge?  I am coming with my 26 yr old daughter and she is going to want to visit some site or do something on Thursday 9/13.  Need help figuring this out.  Also what airport is the best to fly into?

I am bringing my  24 year old son and 31 year old daughter we are researching now for idea's  i'll let you know what we find...I did see a believe  6 flags..but not really sure what your daughter would be interested in

Hi ladies veteran mom here. Many of us veteran moms stayed at the Navy Lodge and it is a great place. There is not a shuttle but Sarge has a great taxi service for you to use.

djmom, suggestion for you, if you can rent a car I would highly recommend it as taxis, shuttles and trains fares will quickly add up to possibly more than renting a car. If not like I said Sarge has a great service and reasonable rates. You will hear more about Sarge as things for this PIR progress along.

I would suggest that you bring these kind of questions over to the main page as many in all divisions for this PIR will be asking some of the same questions and us veteran moms don't get into the individual discussion as much as we would like to. We are currently trying to help with questions on 9 or so PIR groups and don't want to miss something that one of us may be able to help you with.

FTLW will be posting a lot of information for you all in the next few days that will help answer bunches of questions that you may have.

Looking forward to chatting with you all!!!!
