Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

THU (Temporary Holding Unit)--- Help!
Hello, everyone!
I am in need of some major advise and information about THU and would love to hear from someone who has or is going through the same situation as I am. My fiancee is currently being held in THU for "allergies and sinuses", which I find to be very minor medical issues, and therefore is not able to continue to go to his A school in Pensacola, Fl. for Air Rescue. He graduated one week ago and was initially told that they would only keep him in THU for 10 days after graduation and thereafter he would be able to proceed to Pensacola, now however he is finding out from other Sailors, who are also going through similar issues, that they might keep him for five or six months. We are both confused and there is no one person who has answers to exactly how long they might keep him there and if he will ever be able to go to his A school. I understand this is the military and many things are uncertain in the military however it would be helpful to know where he will be so we can adjust our living situation and future plans towards it.

First off he needs to stop listening to others in THU...he needs to talk to the staff and the doctors only about what is going on with him as no two situation is the same.
You may think it is a minor issue, but he needs waivers for all allergies, so he will be on hold while waiting the waiver.
He could be there 10 days or a few months. As far as adjusting living situation??? Not sure what you are talking about as he isn't married no matter what he would be living in barracks even on the "A" School base.
If the waiver is approved, he will move on to his "A" School, while at the "A" School he will be living in barracks as he is a single Sailor.

You don't get to make to many "future"plans now. Have to work on military time. The other sailors could be there for other issues making their time different. As Angie says don't go by what they are saying. He needs to be asking question. Keeping up on his own situation.

Hi,
Hopefully all went well with your fiancees clearance and you are still active on the site and can pass along any information you have regarding the THU experience. My son will got through PIR on 11/16/2012 and was told he'd stay back in THU until his wavier for Lasik surgery (eyes) clears and then he'll receive his orders for A School in Pensacola. He is not concerned that the wavier wouldn't be approved since it has been approved multiple times up to this point and his med./eyesight tests are all perfect at BC.
Any information will help.

My son is going to Pensacola for Aircrew and is being held in THU for a final blood test to make sure he isn't anemic. He was told by other sailors and by a Dr. that the wait for a waiver is between 3-5 months. It seems like a complete waste of time and taxpayer money to hold them for so long. A waiver? It must be a pretty huge document to take so long to complete.

I found this discussion thread because I am trying to get more information about THU as well. My daughter's PIR was 11/9 and she was placed in THU after because of a minor injury she received during the Captains Cup's events. She says that the doctor has cleared her, but she's not getting any information regarding how much longer she might be in THU. She's supposed to be attending A School in Great Lakes.

http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/ship5/index.asp may give you some more info. The time spent in the THU all depends on why the Sailor is in the THU. Some are there a few days and others are there for a few weeks or longer.
