Hi, all my son graduates boot camp on April 5, 2013. Does anyone know what the weather is like around that time? Also where is the best and closest hotel? Thanks in advance...

I'm sure there are links all around here describing the many hotel options. The closest and least expensive is the Navy Lodge. You would use your SR's name to book it. However, if you don't have a car, they don't provide a shuttle as other hotels in the area do, and it is too far to walk to.

As far as weather in Chicago goes at that time of year, it could be very cold with lots of snow, or you might hit an early spring. I believe the groundhog did not see his shadow so maybe you'll be in luck.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Waukegan and it was very nice.  If you tell them your coming for Navy graduation they will give you a discount.  Also I hear that the Navy Lodge is nice and reasonable.

As far as weather in Illinois it is very unpredictable.  I live in Illinois and last year in April we had temps in the 80's and also snow.  My son graduated Memorial Day weekend 2 years ago and we about froze so make sure you bring a coat.  :)

Navy Lodge Great Lakes is a great place to stay.  It is 1.5 miles from the Recruite Training Center It is in the Base housing area.

Our son graduated boot camp in early January of this year. We stayed at the Navy Lodge. It was great. The only negative thing I can say is that the water pressureis not very good when showering. We had a rental car and were only 5 minutes from graduation. We had a room with a fridge and used it quite a bit.

Greetings from New Orleans. We lived in Chicago about 20 yrs ago & I remember by the first week of April (another child's birthday), snow was usually all gone. I have a son graduating on April 5th. We're staying at a Country Inn & Suites (Have free nights)  about 10 miles from base.

Thank you, just joined:)
Thanks, our son is also graduating on the 5th.
