So my husband graduates basic training on the 29th of this month, he called me yesterday and was talking about something called liberty weekend but he was so excited about it he made absolutely no sense! Can ANYONE explain to me what this is??

My daughter will have PIR mid October. Her A school is in Great Lakes. Do you think she will have the entire weekend for liberty??
If she stays in GL, then she will have Daytime Liberty each day of the weekend so you should plan to leave late Sunday or on Monday. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend. I left additional info on your My Page.
krissygirl, my daughter graduated on Labor Day weekend. From personal experience, stay flexible.
CryptoDad, Did your Sailor have PIR on Thursday instead of Friday? Labor Day weekend used to be a four day weekend at the RTC (at least it was from 2008 to 2011), but that changed in 2012 and since then PIR Labor Day weekend has been on Friday and most of the new Sailors have flown out on Saturday with a few exceptions--just saying.
CryptoDad, PIR Labor Day weekend in 2003 was on a Friday (09/05/2003 based on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECMalnAGxkk), but I can't find the date for PIR Labor Day weekend of 2004 when your Sailor had PIR.
Will we find out exactly when they leave for A school before graduation? My son is also going to Pensacola.
Tylersmom, Your Sailor may not know his itinerary until a few days before, or in some cases, not until the morning of PIR.
Check your My Page; I left info for you.
Just for future reference, liberty is normal time off such as evenings, weekends, and federal holidays, or when they are given a day off. Leave is their earned paid vacation days, which they get to take by putting in a written request. Your sailor should have leave after A school.
LOL, he is in boot camp, all future time off seems special.
Yes, he can have his phone in A school. He can't take it back to the RTC that night, so make arrangements to be at the airport when he flies out and you can give it to him then. Once he knows his flight, you can go to the airport and get a pass to be with him at the gate until he departs.
