What airlines do they usually fly out of? I booked my flight Saturday night just in case we can hangout at the airport.

Thank you

They can fly out of either O'Hare or Midway depending on their destinations and available flights. There's really no way to know in advance. I sent my son an index card in the mail a couple of weeks before PIR and asked him to write his flight information on it and give it to me at PIR - I believe he said he only got the information on the Thursday.

My son flew out of O'Hare on a Delta flight

Sailors usually fly out of O'Hare or Midway. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend for more on that and to help you know how to plan your weekend.

Do they check their big bag with all the uniforms and such or is it considered a carry on? I would like to bring a small bag with stuff he will want at A school and wondered if it could be his carry on?

my son flew out on Saturday. He checked his seabag and garment bag and had a black backpack that he was using as a carry-on.

He is an efficient packer and had very little in his carry-on besides the letters he received. I met him at the airport and was able to give him his laptop, kindle, phone etc... which he was able to fit into the carry-on.

He did say that not everyone was able to pack as efficiently as he was and that many people had pretty full backpacks

Momof2, the seabag and garment bag are checked and your then Sailor will use his black backpack as his carry-on. They have to be able to carry everything, so another bag could be a problem. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend for more on that and more.
