OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A beautiful homecoming...

Redeploying Troops Get Holiday Homecoming

By Donna Miles

American Forces Press Service

BALTIMORE, Dec. 23, 2009 - Two days before Christmas, the longest line today at the airport here wasn't at a ticket counter, or at security checkpoints. It was at the international terminal, where hundreds of well-wishers lined up to welcome about 150 troops home from combat deployments.

Troops returning from deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan get a hearty holiday… Continue

Say Hello To Your Two New N4M Admins!

Hello everyone!

It's been a little over a year since I took over as admin of this community. Hard to believe we had less than 9,000 members then - we have over three times that amount today!

I've had a wonderful experience, but alas, this my last day as your admin. I'll be moving on to new responsibilities, but I'm leaving the community in the hands of two capable ladies - Colleen and Elizabeth.

They've been training with me over the past few weeks and starting… Continue

I am asking that N4Ms put our "page numbers" back where they belong!

Thoughts on Christams presents....

It is that time of year, when gift giving is on the minds of many. What to give a sailor?

Honestly I don't have an easy answer, because there are as many answers as there are sailors! We all know the basic answers: nothing in boot camp, in school it all depends, on a ship they have no room. The standard answers become socks and food and NEX gift cards. I never suggest electronics, especially once they are in the fleet. They have spending money now and access to the NEX... and if… Continue

Ning is aware of the problem as it has been occurring across many of their other social networks all morning. Please hold tight until they can get this resolved. I sent a broadcast message this morning and will send another once I receive word that everything is back to normal. In the meantime, I apologize if I am not responding to your reports and notes as the problem is also affecting my ability… Continue

Old enough to serve not legal to drink

It doesn't make logical sense, but it is legal. They have to swear in to defend the laws of this country, so let's not encourage them to break the ones we disagree with. As they say down here, "that dog don't hunt."

Always a sailor.... things you didn't know about the Navy.

You know how nervous your sailor was on liberty after PIR? They stayed in uniform and avoided the PDA with the GF? That they thought there were eyes on them all the time?

Your sailor was not so very wrong. Great Lakes is a large base, and there are many sailors in the area who are senior to the new sailors out on their first liberty. Why does that matter if the other guy isn't in their chain of command? It matters because any sailor who is senior to another may correct their… Continue
